10/10 resort and memorable experience - delicious plant-based food, gorgeous, relaxing & peaceful
I cannot say enough good things about this resort! Firstly, incredible restaurant (the venue itself is gorgeous and peaceful) - breakfasts are filling, nutritious and delicious. Best food I had in Bali overall. As a vegan very familiar with high quality plant-based food, all the meals exceeded by expectations. Private cooking class was amazing - the head chef was very kind, passionate and knowledgeable. The create your own tea station was amazing. The fresh juices refreshing and so healthy. I felt incredibly refreshed, calm, and healthy after only 4 days here! Secondly, Great wellness retreat in general - morning yoga was am amazing way to start the day! Pool was relaxing. I did use the gym on a rainy day and found even those facilities peaceful. The massages were amazing - recommend the traditional Balinese massage. My room had a luxurious outdoor shower and also a large private bathtub RIGHT overlooking the rushing river - gorgeous and peaceful. Thirdly, the staff are top tier and genuinely friendly and welcoming and respectful, and always professional and available immediately to help with anything - resort manager was excellent and came to speak with me immediately when I had only a minor concern/question about my room. They are available on WhatsApp and very responsive to quests needs! Lastly, just overall gorgeous grounds - beautiful resort nestled in the jungle, on the river and so peaceful to feel immersed in nature. My room was stunning, quiet, well maintained and cleaned/refreshed two times daily (evening turndown service). As a young solo woman traveler, I felt incredibly safe and well taken care of here. I would come back alone or as a couple or with friends 100 percent! It is great for a peaceful solo retreat, but also I can see it being very romantic, or nice for a girls/friend trip! The other guests at the resort were also very friendly and I enjoyed some company for a few meals with other solo travelers and made some friends!
I really loved this resort overall. Zero true complaints - top tier resort and amazing experience. Personally, the only thing that I would prefer as a vegan who really prefers to patronize fully plant-based businesses, is for the menu to NOT offer fish or eggs/animal products as that does not align with my values. I would love to find a truly 100 percent vegan resort. For example, I eat vegan egg/vegan omelettes with mung bean alll the time (and other restaurants in Bali offered vegan egg), and even omnivores usually cannot tell the difference. Vegan honey also exists. I accidently ordered a chicken egg omelette thinking it was vegan egg and took a bite and was revolted/obviously had to send it back which felt wasteful too, so that was my only negative experience. I just don't think it is necessary to always cater to people who want animal products, as so very few places exist that truly reject animal exploitation. I believe they can survive a few days or a week with vegan egg and vegan sushi/fish etc. ;) and they might learn something new/to love vegan alternatives!

Will be dreaming of this place forever
I rarely take time to write detailed reviews but this place was quite honestly the best place I have ever stayed at. From the moment I arrived I knew I had made the right decision. The staff were attentive and made me feel welcome from the start (even if it was 11pm at night and I was half asleep). The room itself was a dream! From the giant super king size bed to the tranquil location - I felt completely at peace. With no distractions and little noise apart from nature surrounding the room, I was able to fully switch off. The outdoor shower and bathtub was simply sublime and really added to the rustic feel of the retreat. The housekeeping staff were attentive and beyond friendly, cleaning the room in the morning and then refreshing in the evening. I treated myself to a facial at the spa which was incredible. Although slightly on the pricier side (similar to western prices) it was definitely worth it. It was held in a hut surrounded by nature with 100% natural products and a very knowledgeable facialist. Now the food is what I am most excited to write about and I would return just for the exquisite meals that are served. The breakfast consisted of fresh fruit, smoothies, homemade bread, jam and spreads as well as a rotating main menu. I tried vegan shakshuka, amazing porridge bowls and crepes. The dinner also had a rotating menu which meant that there was always something different to try and always using fresh ingredients. The staff were also what made my stay so memorable. I was fortunate to go on a tour of the local village and our lovely guide who works at the resort and also lives in the village shared stories about local life and information about the culture. I took a grab motorbike into Ubud twice during my stay which was great to explore the local area and was only approximately 15 minutes away.

Incredibly relaxing, quiet stay
Our villa with private pool was beautiful! The restaurant was exceptional, with large healthy servings and a great variety of predominantly plant based food. The treatments at the day spa were excellent. The resort is so secluded, you feel a long way away from the busy roads of SE Asia. All the staff were friendly, polite and went above and beyond to assist us where they could.
Bear in mind the resort is in quite an untouched location, and the wildlife that lives there will live with you too!

A dissapointing Experience
The gym was a great new addition, there was at least some relaxation here by the pool which was nice
This visit was very disappointing compared to the five times I came before Covid. If it was your first visit, you might enjoy it—but for those of us who knew it before, the changes are hard to ignore. It’s clear the place is under new management, which explains a lot. The menu is nothing like it used to be—hot chips on a "wellness retreat" menu? The food was bland, uninspired, and inconsistent with what I’ve previously experienced which was exceptional For a vegan-focused retreat, the creativity just isn't there. Hashbrowns on the menu for breakfast? The service also felt disorganised. Staff knocked on my door early in the morning for cleaning, ignoring me when I said I wasn’t ready, and even interrupted a treatment to get me to sign a bill while I was face down in a massage. Meals arrived far too early and were left sitting in the heat, showing little care or planning. I shared my concerns during my stay and, while I was offered a complimentary dinner as an apology, it didn’t come close to making up for the overall decline in standards—especially considering the price. To make matters worse, at checkout a promised discount hadn’t been applied, meaning I overpaid. The treatments themselves were still good, though not nearly as exceptional as in the past. The atmosphere has lost its sparkle. It felt more like a standard 4-star hotel than the peaceful health retreat I once loved. I was shocked to find children and babies allowed, which completely undermined the quiet, restorative environment I came for. On top of that, I visited in August and was kept awake every night by the loud kites flown nearby, which sound like jackhammer above your room. This is a common issue in Bali during this season, but I feel the retreat should set clearer rules to protect guests seeking tranquillity. Sadly, I won’t be returning here—or to Bali. Between the noise, traffic, loss of culture, and inflated prices, it no longer feels like the special place it once was.

Wonderful stay if you a looking to disconnect
When the word retreat has a real meaning. You want to disconnect, here is the place.
Location not great as Ubud area is not really near. Also if you are not into vegetarian food you will be looking for restaurants or delivery.

Once in a Lifetime Stay at Fivelements Retreat!
The staff are extremely friendly, helpful and accommodating. The property is absolutely gorgeous and creates a very zen feeling. Finally, although we are not vegan, the vegan food is simply amazing!!!
At the time of our stay, the pool was closed for maintenance, which was a little disappointing, but not enough to ruin our stay. šŸ˜€
