A luxurious, but expensive stay

We spent two weeks in Bali for our honeymoon, staying in 5 different points of the Island. The Damai was our third hotel and third location. We chose this as our "luxury option" and the place where we would settle and relax after a busy couple of days. The hotel is gorgeous and so was our private villa. Every detail was well thought about. The hotel kindly gave us a complimentary honeymoon benefits and I was delighted to walk into a bath full of petals! Thank you. The free massage is a nice touch, it was a dry massage and id never had one of these. It was wonderful and just what was needed for sore and tired muscles. The staff were friendly, attentive and couldn't do more for you! We felt very well looked after. The breakfast was incredible and would definitely recommend booking with breakfast included. It is worth every penny. We are vegetarians and the hotel catered for our needs very well. We found there wasn't really anything we could eat on the lunch menu and when raising this the chef was more than happy to come up with some alternative options for us.

Dining on site became very expensive - This being our most expensive hotel, we should have expected that dining here would also be costly. However we didn't quite anticipate the cost. The food was beautiful, but there wasn't an awful lot on the vegetarian menu for dinner. All of the food was well presented, but very high end and as other reviews have highlighted, sometimes you just want to have some comfort food for dinner such as a pizza or a nice cheesy pasta. Given there wasn't much we fancied on the dinner menu we headed out into Lovina some nights to eat. The staff seemed disappointed with this, but travelling the island comes at a cost and our money would have been better spent elsewhere. To give you an idea of cost, dinner with 2 mains (no starters), a beer or two, cocktail and side was roughly 2 million. Which was an awful lot just for one night. Views from our room - The listing boasted sea and mountain views. We sadly didn't have these, our pool was bordered by fencing and greenery.

Everything about the hospitality was perfect. The staff went above and beyond to take care of us, making our stay truly memorable and special. The villa was beautifully unique in its design, with incredible attention to every small detail.

The perfect place to relax and refresh

A beautiful hotel set in discrete and lush grounds. Our villa was perfect. Plenty of living and sleeping space and a private terrace and pool overlooking a stunning valley to the sea in the distance. The staff are absolutely wonderful - friendly, caring and attentive. The food was really good - at the fine dining end. The team are very responsive to organising anything you want from excursions , shuttles to Lovina and airport transfer. We wanted a relaxing and quiet week and the Damai delivered exactly what we needed.

We stayed for 8 nights and although the kitchen cooks well there is no flexibility in the menu. Some nights we simply wanted something really simple and this wasn’t possible.

Nice Stay but Hotel Past Its Prime

Overall, our stay was okay, but the hotel clearly feels past its prime and in need of a strong overhaul to return to its full potential. The hotel itself is nice and probably still the best option in Lovina, unless you move up into the mountains for something different.

The first night we had quite a bit of noise from the AC, which was bothersome. It was partially fixed the next morning but still not ideal. The staff were polite, but compared to other places we stayed in Bali, they felt less warm and welcoming. I’m not sure if this is due to management/ownership changes or because the hotel is trying to position itself more as a premium property. Overall, a good stay but not amazing — more like a solid 4-star, though leaning towards 3-star in terms of experience. With proper renovation and renewed attention to hospitality, this place could really shine again.

The room was spacious and stunning, and watching the sunset from the pool area was absolutely magical, one of those moments you don’t forget. The food was excellent (breakfast was a highlight), and what really stood out was the service. The staff were so kind and attentive, remembering my dietary needs throughout my stay, which added such a warm and thoughtful touch. It felt like more than just a stay, it was an experience filled with care, beauty, and genuine hospitality. I left feeling so looked after and can’t wait to return

Beyond expectations.

This was the most gorgeous place to stay. The facilities and staff were beyond exceptional. The food was endless and to the highest quality. The sunsets into the vista, the infinity pool, the massages and the early morning yoga only added to the overall experience. If you are looking for a place that holds everything, we highly recommend. Thank you to the Damai for having us to stay.

Truly amazing stay! We loved it from the minute we arrived till the minute we had to go.

We stayed 3 nights in the Damai, in one of the villas with private pool. The accommodations were truly fantastic and the domain is very well maintained. When entering the lobby, the first thing you see is the open swimming pool with an amazing view, located near the bar and restaurant. After check-in we were guided to our room, an amazing villa with private pool and with full privacy garden. The room is nice, very clean, with an outdoor shower and bath. They staff cleans the room every day, and comes by multiple times a day, to open the window covers in the moring (when you're at breakfast), clean and make up bed, close the covers in the evening and prepare bed for sleep, or bring fresh fruits. Overall the staff of the Damai is so friendly and welcoming, the restaurant serves great food and breakfast. This was truly a remarkable stay and I would definitely recommend staying in the Damai if you're looking for rest and calmed. Thank you, I would really like to come back one day.

The setting is great, also for a relaxing massage, but I found the price for the massages to high. There are many places in Bali to get a good Balinese massage in a great setting. I think lowering the price (to make it more competitive), would increase the number of massages given.

The culinary experience is of a level rarely encountered, especially in such a remote setting. The kitchen is trained by Michelin-star chefs, and it shows in every dish. Food lovers will be in absolute heaven. The Damai achieves what so many try but few truly master: they don’t just offer a stay – they create an experience you’ll never forget. One that touches you, lingers, and calls you back. Many try to offer a familial atmosphere, but at The Damai, it feels genuine, natural, and unmatched. Very nice, but secluded retreat.

Excellent service and personal attention from the staff. Food was sublime and could be adapted to personal preferences (although food in general is twice as expensive as comparable hotels like Hyatt). Very nice setup of the resort providing lots of privacy. Very good hotel driver/taxi.

Remote location, with no or very few reliable restaurants in the vicinity. Hotel rooms need maintenance (bird/insect activity above ceiling due cavities in roof). CC deposit required upon prepaid check-in.

Exceptional in every way

Beautiful villa with the pool. Fresh fruit and filtered water, tea, and coffee were complimentary. The villa was cleaned twice a day. There were plenty of choices for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The staff was very friendly and professional and did their outermost to help us whenever needed. A big thank you to them! If you are looking for a place to relax and unwind, combine spa days with unique excursions, the Damai is the place to be.

The only negative comment I wish to make is it is aprox 2.5 km from the local town Lovina. The hotel did provide a courtesy bus from 7am to 6pm which was great.

The staff were very attentive and helpful! Very friendly and make you feel at home. The location is remote and serene for a very calming and peaceful stay with stunning views everywhere you look. The housecleaning is also very attentive and everyday the room gets cleaned and tidied up multiple times so you always come back to paradise. Loved the stay and would 1000% recommend a stay in this lovely resort. Will definitely be coming back to it next time we are in Bali.

Highly recommended it is an experience well worth finding.

We were the first guests to arrive after the property was re-opened following a three-year closure and were treated as such. They could not have done more to make us feel welcome.

The villa had a terrific view and great infinity pool and was finished to a high standard, the staff were very attentive and genuine. The owner Nils was a terrific host and we very much enjoyed his company. It is a lovely place to stay and a great experience.

Très belle expérience

Magnifique établissement. Notre chambre était très spacieuse et décorée avec gout. Le personnel adorable et prestations haut de gamme. Nous avons particulièrement apprécié le massage de bienvenue dans un spa magnifique et les petits-déjeuners dignes d'un brunch (l'option healthy était top) dans un cadre luxeux avec une belle vue.

Comme indiqués par les autres hôtes, le restaurant et les prestations (massage) sont assez chers (mais dignes d'un très bon resto en France). Cela oblige à trouver d'autres solutions pour les repas alors que le cadre et le personnel sont vraiment au top. Dommage !

Das Damai ist ein ganz besonderes Schmuckstück in den Hügeln von Lovina. Extrem schön und gut gepflegte Anlage mit tollen Zimmern. Sehr hochwertig ausgestattet und ein Frühstück und Abendessen der Spitzenklasse. Täglicher kostenloser Shuttleservice ins Zentrum inkl Abholservice sind im Preis inbegriffen. Das gesamte Personal ist auf Topniveau und alles in allem ist das Damai eines der besten Hotels auf Bali wenn man in Ruhe entspannen möchte. Auch das Spa ist auf gleichem Niveau!! Wirklich ein absoluter Geheimtipp für Ruhesuchende!

Bereits beim Betreten des Hotels spürt man, das es etwas Besonderes ist. Das Personal ist extrem zuvorkommend, die einzelnen Villen geschmackvoll und großzügig eingerichtet. Das Frühstück und auch alle Gerichte der Speisekarte sind vorzüglich. Der Spabereich wird sehr gut geführt. Die Massagen sind sehr professionell und die Yogaklassen ein Highlight. On demande fort uniquement sous les pieds mais elle fait fort partout sauf sous les pieds ! Dommage !

ALLES! Het hotel, de 2 villa’s, het ontbijt, lunch, diner,… kortom alles was subliem van t begin tot einde! We deden voor de 1e keer yoga in het hotel en het beviel ons enorm, ook de gratis welkomsmassage voor elk van ons 3 en de Balinese massage beviel ons enorm. Ook het personeel was op en top! Vriendelijk, behulpzaam, 24/7 waren ze er. Ook de taxiservice en de excursies, georganiseerd door het hotel, waren héél goed! Een onvergetelijk verblijf en een echte aanrader! Dankjewel aan het hele team van ‘the Damai’!
