Not great, i would say this is what i would expect of a three star at best

Not much went well to be honest

The room that we had was really dated, tatty and poorly cleaned. there were skid marks in the toilet, a tissue in the bin and hairs in the sink. The whole hotel has a very musty scent once you enter the corridors area. The breakfast was not great with a poor selection of food which also was not overly hot

It was nice experience but definitely need to improve some things in the menu.

The hotel is nice, clean and big room. The swimming pool was really nice and clean, quiet which was perfect for us and the staff very friendly. The dinner was very good and all the seats were very nice and cozy.

As much as I enjoyed the food as quality the variety of food was limited. There was no many choices for dinner and starters. The breakfast was very limited, I ordered fried eggs well done but they came runny and I didn’t even had a chance to try them as the egg white was literally uncooked. Coffee.. massive disappointment, as a big coffee drinker this was one of the worst experiences I ever had. No water in the jar and as general limited choices for food. The restaurant was pretty cold at the evening, definitely needed a coat for dinner.

Breakfast was good value for money the pool sauna and steam room were a good addition to the hotel and excellent for the money you pay

The only thing I didn't like is I feel the bedrooms are a little dated the bar and reception looks like that is where the money has gone

Great location, parking and room availability. Receptionist was lovely.

Bar/restaurant team lacked energy/enthusiasm. They didn’t look like they wanted to be there.

Good value for money, everything you need for a good stay.

Had a pool, dinning area and lounge area was large but still had separate areas. Staff were friendly and nice. Drinks in the fridge were complementary which was a nice touch.

Rooms out dated, bathrooms have been updated but need snags completed.

I didn’t like that they only give one pillow here I didn’t sleep the first night then the second night I asked for an extra pillow it took them hours for them to give me one after complains twice. Jacuzzi was closed, pool was out dated so was steam room. Sauna was ok but not mixed so couldn’t go in with my partner

Food wasn't great. Had fish and chips for tea with buttered bread which was stale and the breakfast wasn't great either. The bread was stale and the cheese was mouldy plus dirty cutlery on the table.

Overall stay

Limited food on arrival then was told they haven't got what we ordered so was offer3d a sandwich and 1 steak when we ordered 2 steaks couldnt cut or chew the meat at a cost of £21 not very helpfull staff went to our room was nice at first glance then we noticed no mirror at hand to get ready in the morning so my partner had to sit on the floor to do her hair but there was a unlocked connecting door between us and in the nits someone came into our room from the next room not happy at all there was also a marque right outside our window playing loud music till the early hours I went to complain about this in the morning and the staff just looked at me and walked off shocking service from all around I have emailed them but no response at all the overall stay cost €125 for the room £59 food and drink and it was all shocking tbh will not be using booking .Com or that hote4 again

We had our wedding reception at the Mercure when it was the Thistle 34 years ago so we love to come back every so often. It’s a lovely hotel.

We had a privilege room but it was a bit tired. The carpet was badly stained and the bathroom needed a bit of TLC. Walls had marks on them and the furniture needed attention.

2 uninvited visitors in my room

Not much

Checked in and went to my room to find 2 young lads in my room. When challenged they scuttled away. Went to reception to find out what was going on and they said they knew 2 boys were wandering around the hotel. They were not going to take any action. I suggested they call the police as the lads had accessed my room. They didn't seem to know what to do. I'm not aware of the police were ever called. Will definitely never stay here again.

Diabolical for the price

Check in staff were lovely and location good.

The room was dirty the bed was terrible, hard and sagging. Service at the bar ridiculously slow when there was only us at the bar we waited 20 minutes!breakfast was awful especially for the exorbitant price, you could break your teeth on the bacon. The QR codes on the mirror for room service didn't work and bizarrely the phone was in the bathroom!I wouldn't even rate a 3 star never mind a 4!

There was a party night right outside our room we were not told until we arrived and the rooms heating didn’t work so we had to call and a tiny heater delivered. The guy told us they were aware the heating wasn’t working.

Breakfast was poor. Eggs looked like they had been there all morning dried up. Liked the freshly squeezed orange juice but it was very sour. Bedroom was freezing cold and didn’t get above 12 degrees.

Life Savers!!!

Mecure came through agter a poor experience with a private owner. The room was lovely and clean, with warm radiators and hot water. The receptionist let us stay an extra half hour as we were a little behind schedule. Nothing but praise and I'd happily stay again.

No room ready when we checked in after 9pm after a slog of a drive. Didn't get a room until 11ish in the evening. Hotel fully booked so not chance of changing to a room With working heaters. Freezing cold stay and I want a refund

Room was very cold heating didn’t work only bedside table. I had just had major surgery and the walk to the room was very long and exhausting.

Stayed visiting family

The bed is comfy and the room is adequate, not noisy, good tv. The reception and bar area are lovely. Bar food reasonable price and tasty.

Bathroom definitely needs updating. Cracked tiles on floor, bath panel has seen better days. Not modern enough and in poor repair. Bath too high for me to climb over to have shower. Needs a walk in shower and unnecessary bath removing. Tea and coffee area too small and not enough tea bags provided. Overall the rooms need some tlc.

The Location for our destination was perfect, easy to find and a free carpark. Food choice was good and tasty.

I find their room cancellation policy baffling. I had a booking on 18/08 and another on 17/09 and both times (around 18:30) when I was less than 30 mins from arriving they honed to tell me they had to cancel my room due to a ‘water leak’. Once is understandable but twice becomes unbelievable. Especially on the second time where the lady calling me said it happened in the morning, why wait until 18:30 to contact me then? Lies.

Private car park

Due to two weddings over the course of the stay, very noisy at night; one room overlooked the marquee, very little sleep. On further investigation on the website when we had checked in found right at the bottom a sentence mentioning this. Although the website states there may sometimes be functions, no notification until check-in that this was going to be an issue for our stay. Facility’s that are shown as available for guests on booking - on check in there is an additional charge for this. Bedding not fitted correctly (double sheet on a king bed) Rooms looked very tired and not what the photos showed.
