Too difficult to stay here - anywhere else in St Helens would be better

Location!

Numbering system to access the outside door - mostly worked - and my room (never worked without help) was the worst I have ever seen. Would not ever recommend staying here to anyone. No heater or shower instructions, so very cold at night & could not get a hot shower.

Didnt have breakfast as it was too late for work, but going on the evening meal i had im sure it would have been great

Some issue with the door key entry which caused some delay even after it was resolved front door happened again Towels could have been bigger and better quality to match the finish and feel of the room Heater could have been on timer so when guests arrive room is warm especially this time of year, although this might happen as i was a last minuet arrival No heating on bathroom though

Very comfortable rooms but no breakfast!

The Royal Alfred consists of a number of recently refurbished bedrooms with a communal kitchen above (and a separate entrance from) a popular pub opposite St Helens Central Station. The location is excellent - and surprisingly quiet, at least on a Sunday evening - and the rooms very clean and comfortable. Key codes and prepayment allow access without any interaction with staff but the bar staff were friendly and helpful when we had questions.

There was no breakfast available before 10 am! Booking.com suggests that, although breakfast cannot be paid for in advance, it is optionally available for £8.95. The hotel itself emailed us in advance to say that it "take(s) great pride in our Daily Breakfast Offering, which you can enjoy weekdays from 8am". But breakfast was not in fact available until the pub opened at 10am - far too late for us and many other guests.

It was clean and comfortable. The busy pub downstairs was friendly and the staff couldn’t do enough for us.

There were very few negatives. The parking could potentially be an issue, but there is a train station opposite where you may be able to pay to park. The rooms would not be accessible for those with mobility issues as there are stairs to get to the rooms and no lifts.

Outstanding rooms and staff.

As other reviews have noted, the pub/hotel has recently been refurbished to a very high standard. The staff were all friendly and helpful. We had an issue with the times of breakfast, and this was resolved very quickly. The standard of the food was excellent and reasonably priced.

Fab Accomodation/Pub. Train Link V Close. Super if you want to watch a game at Liverpool.

Fab place, stayed post the Liverpool Game, Uber back but train is an option as right opposite the central train station. While a little pricey - it was good value when the city is full. Bed super comfy and all has been decorated to a lovely new standard.

Convenient near train station. Clean and modern

The rooms very recently decorated to a high standard. Looking very good, clean and comfortable.

Self check in The shower ( either too hot or too cold) and no pressure. The pub ( for breakfast) was still closed at 9 in the morning, nobody about.

It didn't bode well that the room had a set of ear plugs supplied when we arrived Soon found out that the bar downstairs had a live band this was very loud and went on till after midnight There is no way we could have had an early night Would suggest that you check to see what type of entertainment Is on before you book

A jewel in st helens 9-10

Location was excellent for the rugby. Good crack in the pub after the rugby and not to loud co sideline it's above the pub. Breakfast was superb. Clean welcoming. This will be our go to for the future In st helens. Staff excellent.

It was very accessible as you receive a key code for the main door and your room door. Was very clean and tidy and the facilities were great
