the staff were so friendly and helpful right from the beginning from check in and showing us to our room . our dog was warmly greeted too which was fantastic.
our room was spacious and comfortable and lovely and warm.
we could only eat in the library with our dog but it was perfect lovey atmosphere and so tranquil and the food was beautiful.
the waiting staff were so helpful and did all they could to help and accommodate any requirements for my food allergy.
the castle itself is beautiful and full of history and comfort along with some gorgeous peacocks roaming around which added to the beautiful surroundings and views.
we really enjoyed our time here and would stay again

Dogs not allowed in restaurant do you have to sit outside or in library but it takes ages to get served as no staff

We had an unforgettable anniversary weekend at Hazelwood Castle & Spa. The castle is stunning, full of charm and character, and our room was beautifully appointed and very comfortable. The spa was relaxing and indulgent, adding a real touch of luxury to our stay. Everything from the attentive staff to the delicious food made our anniversary extra special. We couldn’t have asked for a more memorable getaway and would love to return.

I liked the grounds, and the greenery. The downstairs in the main castle has nice features. Fire places, ornate details, bookcases. Breakfast was great, as was service.
The bedroom we stayed in was stripped of original features. Not in the main castle but in the courtyard, although this was meant to be a premium room not a standard room. £168 a night. No good view. We look out onto cultivated plastic wrapped hay and a tractor. Room is outdated, wallpaper peeling, bed very uncomfortable, dirty throw pillows, hair on the sheets from what looks like a pet, mould growing under table and on bathroom ceiling, dust and cobwebs around curtain poles, and our towel had holes from wear and tear. It should not be washed but binned. The room was also very cold, even with the windows closed and the radiator turned up to max. We only tolerated it because we checked in and quickly left to spend our time elsewhere in the city due to the poor place, coming back late at night just to sleep. (Terrible uncomfortable bed, not a restful sleep) Would not recommend this place or stay again unfortunately.

Nice fresh breakfast, friendy staff.
Bathroom not really upto cleanliness standards, dusty shelves between toilet and sink, hairs and dirt behind door. Sourdough on mushroom starter overcooked so it shattered on cutting, very small portion for cost and only one slice of very small sourdough for £10. Hotel overall was very warm.

Staff excellent and very friendly. Location is ideal for if you want a nice quiet location but with easy access to York.
Access to breakfast was in a separate building. Not great if it's bad weather.

The room was a superior king sized room located within the main castle itself (excellent for access to restaurant). The room was large and warm with a decent sized bathroom. The Restaurant serving both breakfast and evening meal was faultless from quality of the food to the friendliness and efficiency of the staff!
Only dislike was the mattress, although reasonably comfortable you could feel the springs pressing into you.

A beautiful building that has been carefully updated so that it’s comfortable. This is a venue that deserves to do well. Excellent accommodation.
The large bedrooms are difficult to heat in very cold weather.

Our room was spacious, comfortable and warm (great on a frosty day!). We had an enjoyable evening meal in the restaurant - although the food was on the warm side, rather than hot. Breakfast was delicious though - and waiting service very attentive.
The outside lighting in the courtyard leading to our accommodation block was inadequate. With steps and uneven ground to negotiate, it made it tricky and a little unsafe to return to our room in the semi-darkness after our meal.

Nice breakfast room, full of character. Lovely hotel overall, good spa.
Breakfast waiting staff weren't particularly friendly, drafty in Breakfast room due to door constantly being left open, no veggie sausages.

Stunning place lots of history and lovely walks beautiful chapel
It needs some older staff to make it a good experience a restaurant front of house would be good just someone who makes your stay special although they try you cannot run a place that offers luxury and good service with young people.

The staff were amazingly friendly
I booked a superior room and it was no way superior. The stains on the carpet furniture was old. The shower hardly worked.

Room size
Unstaffed. Spa closed. Room dirty. 10% service charge at restaurant wasn’t even asked if optional, they just put it on the bill.

You just cannot fault the staff. Amanda on reception, in fact all the staff were so helpful with my partner who was struggling with back pain. They just couldn't do enough for us. Also the food is very good: in the restaurant and also for breakfast, which is cooked to order.
The room was cold and being December, the heating should have been on. Also the bed was quite close to the bathroom door and no waist height plugs for the kettle, hairdryer etc.

The property and its location was stunning.
We checked in at around 4pm, when the hotel was generally cold on arrival including the room and the communal Victoria Room. I had to tamper with the radiator TRV in the room to get it on. The radiator in the Lavender suite does not appear to be working. On check in, dirty laundry was left outside Jasmine room in corridor which was not removed until the following morning. All of which suggest house keeping needs to be more focused.
The decor in the Lavender room was clearly tired with wallpaper peeling away and cracks appearing in places.
The hotel overall has an events feel and appears to be geared more towards events than non-event guests where staff are busy with the wedding party & no-one being at reception around check-in times.

Location was amazing and reading about the history of the place.
Room was a bit bare. Staff could’ve been more welcoming (other than at breakfast)

The staff were very polite and well trained.
The radiator or in my room did not work, so it was cold overnight. the guests attending the pre wedding party were noisy and drunk late at night.
You should stop guests coming to breakfast in their pyjamas, it’s not a good look!!

Quiet, clean and comfortable
Car parking is a bit of a nightmare and on a rainy dark November night when I arrived - I was glad I had a torch in my bag

Was on the ground floor upstairs was noisy, no heating on in the main room radiator was cold ,was cold during the night.

Its an interesting property but could offer so much more. The setting is glorious and the facilities are super but dont be fooled - its really is a wolf in sheeps clothing.
First observation was that there didnt seem to be any disabled access and the only access to main reception was up stone steps outside. Access to the dungeon restaurant was also only from outside and down a flight of outdoor steps.
The room was pokey to say the least. There were human hairs around the shower space (not mine - I am bald as a coot!).
We were not warned that of the 32 rooms, 29 were occupied by wedding guests and they, of course, were loud!!.
Just a few notes here but finally, getting the bill there was a service charge on it. Never seen that in the UK.
If you're not fussy and going with a group then maybe a good venue but certainly wouldnt recommend if you are a couple looking for a quiet retreat.

The place is simply amazing peaceful and surrounded by beautiful nature. The castle has lots of history. So beautiful and suggestive.
I liked everything. It was a wonderful experience.
The only change I would suggest is to provide a shuttle service for people that have no vehicle since the castle is very much isolated and requires some good walking from the bus stop nearby the freeway.

Beautiful building.
Fire alarm went off in the middle of the night, no information given by any staff. The room was very outdated and unclean. So gutted about our stay.

The rooms were all beautifully decorated with so much natural light flooding the area and it felt in keeping with the outside of the property but with modern luxuries

I really enjoyed the peaceful and quiet setting, surrounded by beautiful gardens with peacocks wandering about. The grand historic atmosphere made the stay feel special. The room itself was really nice and comfortable, with a large shower room. The ample car park was very convenient, and overall the whole place had a lovely, impressive charm.
When I arrived at reception, it took around 10 minutes before anyone came to check me in, which was disappointing. There was no bell, and although there was a number to ring, it just rang the same phone. Someone had said they would be a few minutes, but they didn’t arrive, which left the impression of being understaffed. Perhaps self-check-in might be a better option if staffing is an issue.
Breakfast was another area that let the stay down. Although there was a good range of items available, the order-taking seemed confused — my breakfast came out wrong, and I noticed the same issue with several other guests. A hash brown was dropped before reaching the table, and I was also missing a tomato. When I asked about the missing items, only a tomato was brought, and I was told the hash brown had been dropped by me, which wasn’t the case. Either way, it felt poorly handled.
The main pathway from the car park is also in need of repair, as it’s missing slabs in places and felt a bit unsafe — I slipped a couple of times. Finally, the restaurant/breakfast area itself is quite dark and would benefit from better lighting. It feels a little like being in the basement or dungeons, which doesn’t reflect the otherwise grand setting of the castle.

Grounds and hotel were beautiful and well kept
Rooms were clean
Staff were lovely especially the blonde lady on reception.
Fire alarm went off at 3.30am on the entire block. All guests had to leave their rooms and stand outside for 20 minutes.
No explanation of why it happened and no apology given.
Had no sleep

They seemed understaffed. The staff were fantastic, but we had a long wait both at the bar and at the restaurant.
