Read this review - it's really a great base for a stay in Lapland... :-)

This review is about context... TBH, having read the reviews ahead of staying I was anticipating issues... so here's the thing... This hotel is a melting pot of so many cultures - as such these guys are never going to keep all the people happy all the time. Yes the pool was a bit too cold to swim in and yes the room was a bit cramped but - it's minus 30 outside and everyone has a heap of luggage and snow gear so it's all relative. When we arrived the lady that checked us in was really pleasant - the room was attended to every day, when we checked out again really pleasant - As for those people that say the staff are unhelpful - they probably need to take a look at themselves. The rudeness I witnessed from some guests was shocking - in part likely due to the fact that they bring small children who just can't cope with the cold - the breakfast space is amok with excited kids running around or balling their eyes out and stropping because of the guests! So I'd say if you're looking for a peaceful break and - you don't have kids - go out of school holidays - (which probably won't help given the cosmopolitan spread of guests from all around the world) or go to an adult only resort - if you do have kids - don't take them if they're too young for the cold or used to be being spoilt or constantly whingeing The issues you'll read on the reviews, from my experience, are mostly down to the guests not the hotel and staff! (but yeah, the pool could have been warmer ;-)) (Incidentally yes I did take a teenager and no she didn't act like a spoilt pretentious entitled brat...) In summary- ignore the poor reviews unless you're one of the ones who fit into the above bracket - As a base for a great stay in Rovaniemi with a 'Superior King Room' for 3 it worked well and don't moan about how much it costs because you're in the heart of Lapland where the world and his dog wants to be over the festive holiday period!

The rooms were a bit tight on space, the pool was a bit cold and breakfast was 'busy' - but to repeat, for a base in Roveniemi the place was great!

Nice clean rooms. Spacious. Centre of town so easy access to eveything we needed.

The pool wasn't opened and we booked this hotel because of the pool so we were very disappointed to learn it was closed when we arrived. Check in was a nightmare. We arrived at 3.30 and the lobby was full of people waiting to check in but staff wouldn't start check in until 4pm and the it took forever. In my opinion if they had started check in when people arrived it would have been less stressful for staff and guests. There must have been some rooms ready before 4pm.

Property is located in a very good spot for easy access to the city centre, bustops and for the northern lights. The rooms were newly done up and refurb was very nice, cute play room for the children, staff were very nice and helpful and everything was very modern.

The radiators are very limited so trying to dry stuff from the snow was abit tricky and the heating was messed up in turning on and staying on so some stuff was taking ages to re dry but apart from that everything else was perfect x

Firstly, there is no phone in the room when i asked the reception about the phone they said we don’t have phones in our rooms , so i was wondering how to contact the reception if i need to ask about something Secondly, they clean the room but they don’t change the towels of the toilet while cleaning you have to go and complain in the reception Thirdly, there is no safe closet to put your personal staff… i complained to the reception he said are you sure he came with me to the room and saw there is no safe he said because we are working on renovation , but he said in the mean time keep your personal staff with you and he said look after your personal things !!! To sum up , the price that i paid is not worth it were there is no phone , they don’t change towels while cleaning and there is no safe as they stated because of the renovation you have to look for your personal things

Magical and comfortable🥰

Very cute Nordic design! Amazing pool, sauna. Great location! Close to the center but quiet. The hotel has very good soundproofing. We had a standard room, but the view from the window to the river was gorgeous! The breakfast was very varied, a lot of healthy products, a lot of goodies. There is a tour desk in the building next door where you can book reindeer, snowmobile or dog sled safaris.

Family stay in Rovaniemi

We had a family room in the newly renovated block - connected by a subway which was much appreciated in the snowy -25deg weather! The room was very comfortable, great view over the river, and we loved the bunk beds that folded out from the wall for the kids. The breakfast buffet was extensive and very nice, typical of the Scandic chain. The hotel is a few more blocks away from the centre of town, but it is right by the river, next to one of the main tour operators, and on a bus route. The staff were very helpful, particularly in explaining the etiquette for the saunas and pool - thanks! The pool temperature is cool, but that's for cooling off after the sauna - embrace the culture!

Breakfast is horrible!!! No fresh eggs was offered, we asked for the omlet and staff was almost laughing at our faces. Was only disgusting scrambled eggs from powder. Bad coffee, no fresh fruits except apples. Receptionists was useless, telephone in the room was not working and we had to go to reception few times to ask to fix it but nobody even care. Room was dirty. Housekeeping didn't change glasses and caps during all our stay 6 days!!!! No proper cleaning at all!!!

Perfectly located, comfortable hotel

Lovely hotel, in outstanding location by the river. Terrific views. An older style hotel, but still very comfortable. Bathroom small, but adequate. Staff were friendly and helpful. Generous buffet breakfast with a big selection of foods and drinks, catering to all tastes, mindful of food intolerances and preferences. I had a couple of excellent restaurant meals here too, well priced. I travelled with adults, but the hotel seems family friendly.

It would have been good to have tea/coffee making facilities in the room. If you wanted a cup of tea, you had to go to the lobby and pay for poor quality drinks from machines. This is something that would prevent me staying at this hotel again. I often wake at night and like a hot drink - but to get one you would have to change clothes, catch the lift, have change for the machine, take what came from the machines, etc - not pleasant. This is the only reason I ranked facilities poor at this hotel.
