Extremely comfortable hotel (since 1443!) in the old centre of the city, which is very welcoming; if not as beautiful as other Swiss cities it is entirely tourist- and therefore kitsch-free. Large, clean and comfortable room with high quality furniture and fittings, adequate bathroom (always smallish and no windows in CH). Very quiet: old-fashioned double windows, even better than double glazing, and no revellers outside, even on a Saturday evening. Excellent garage with elevator at 50m (40CHF...). Friendly restaurant (with nice terrace) with reasonable prices (for CH), avoiding culinary experiences, which in CH do not always work out as well as in France or Italy... Very good breakfast. The exceptional city museum (mostly Swiss, Dutch and French old masters) is a three-minutes walk and of course there also is the Wolfgang Reinhardt collection (2.5km, best by bus or car), an even more fabulous art collection: Rembrandt, Van Gogh, Füssli, Hodler, Caspar David Friedrich, David, Géricault, Delacroix, Picasso, Renoir, etc., etc.. the absolute top indeed of Europe. Winterthur for that reason is the hidden gem of Switzerland.

The hotel is in a pedestrian zone and the car GPS (at least mine) does not bring you there by the only allowed way, which is by streets that look pedestrian but are accessible for destination traffic. This can be awkward since the Swiss notoriously and rightly do not like foreigners disrespecting their rules... The hotel knew I came by car since I booked a place in their garage and should have provided clear directions.

Had everything I could possibly wanted and had the feeling that everything was made with customer and quality in mind rather than cost reduction, very central location.

Can’t complain about anything

Room was unbearable warm (26 degrees), and the staff told me repeatable that the climate unit only starts to work when the outer temperature is above a certain threshold, which it clearly did.
