A comfortable hotel let down by cheap pillows.
Breakfast was OK, if expensive. As always, the fruit seemed mass bought rather than selected.
I loath foam pillows. They have no consistency and offer little support. The decorative cushions were necessary to provide support for my head. I had two relatively sleepless nights.

Convenient Place to Stay in Besancon
Well located for exploring Besancon. Comfortable spacious room. Nice selection of food at breakfast. Staff friendly and accomadating.

Great choice for a three-star budget as you'll get a few features of a four-star. But bad wi-fi.
A refurbished building smack in the middle of the town, great for doing everything on foot except getting to the train station. One can see that it's an old hotel that got retrofitted: the rooms have old-fashioned vestibules, which are actually great for keeping the room proper very dark. The continental breakfast was great, with a yoghurt bowl (very important for me) and a good variety of local and more broadly French delicacies. Despite being an older building, there were no issues with water pressure or temperature in the shower. The reception crew was very kind and helpful, without exceptions. Despite being classed as a three-star in Booking.com, local signs labelled it as a four-star, and indeed it had traits of both. There's a casino with a restaurant next to it, which is an excellent option for Sunday nights when lots of restaurants are closed due to the small size of the town.
The air conditioner in the room was noisy, so I needed to turn it off. No big issue in late summer or early fall, but I imagine it could be annoying to light sleepers. The "free wifi" was more annoying, though: you could only get low speed access unless you registered in Accor Hotels, which I chose not to do and was thus forced to route everything from my mobile device. There was no mini-fridge in the room, which is not a given for a three-star hotel, but would've been welcome, especially for my mother who takes medication that needs refrigeration.

Good location for walking into Besancon Centre ville and to the Citadel, but poor facilities.
the staff were really helpful and courteous.
The rooms are tired. The furniture is worn, the tiles and grout lines in the bathroom were black due to mould and age, the interior of the fridge was mouldy/dirty. We booked thinking, from the website information, that this hotel had a functioning restaurant, but when we went to book a table for Friday night we were told the restaurant was closed. (The reception did book us a table at the casino restaurant next door.) The breakfast was OK, plenty of choice, however replacement of bacon, eggs and mushrooms was very slow and when it was replaced on Sunday morning the bacon was uncooked and very poor quality, more fat than meat and eggs and mushrooms were cold. The toaster was also broken on Sunday and some of the plates were chipped, but still being put out by the hotel staff. The bar was operated by the reception staff, who were again really courteous and helpful, however the bar had an aroma almost like a sewer, so we didn't stay long.

Regular hotel with good parking near the river and bridge to the old town-center (only 800 meter).
Great location with easy access by car. Big room with good comfort. Great breakfast. Good parking.
A very noisy aircondition.
