Disappointing.
Central location to Drogheda Town. Friendly staff. Food ok (except for venison)
Honestly it was all just a little disappointing.
They note some of their rooms are small and we specifically requested one of the larger rooms on our booking….however the room was really tiny, uncomfortably small. Very small double bed, very little room around the bed, trying to manoeuvre around bed especially at night was difficult. See photo of the few inches of space to get around bed/furniture.
Room was like a sauna, we eventually found switch behind furniture to lower radiator.
Bathroom had a smell and toilet roll holder fell off wall in middle of night. No hot water in the sink…let water run for a long time the next morning but no hot water came out (there was however hot water again when we were checking out but too late at that stage)
Dinner was ok in general. 11 of is had dinner and majority enjoyed but 3 of us had the venison, supposed to be served medium but we all felt it was dry, tough and overcooked. Disappointing for the price you paid.
Breakfast was fine but the waitress aprons were filthy (honestly looked like they hadn’t been washed in weeks) ….a little off putting getting served food. Staff themselves were very nice and friendly.
As we were only staying the one night, it didn’t warrant complaining but it would put us off coming back.

Another great stay in Scholars
Great food, lovely atmosphere in the bar. The staff, as always, were wonderful. Quiet room, comfy bed. Fabulous shower.
We were facilitated with early check in.
Carpark very small and difficult to manoeuvre in it.
The shower had a curtain instead of a shower door/screen.

Lovely, cozy, iconic hotel, with superb staff. The good fabulous, generally a lovely vibe in the place.
Love this hotel. I have stayed there many times! Lovely history attached to it. Good location as well, can easily walk into the town of Drogheda.
There’s absolutely nothing I don’t like! Highly recommend.

Comfortable but Overpriced....
Room and bed was very comfortable even though bed sloped to one side. The shower was spacious and had good pressure - I loved washing my hair under the big rain showerhead. Tea and coffee are complimentary and can be ordered to your room, even though we didn't use this service.
No body cream! The price of €200 per room per night excludes breakfast. As repeat visitors, not so long ago we spent €120 for the room AND breakfast. This rate of €200 excluded breakfast and I feel is pretty extortionate. The room is comfortable, but definitely not worth €200 on it's own. There is nothing special or luxury about the room, so if hotels outside of Dublin are charging these rates we're in trouble as a country. Also, we spent quite a bit of money at Sunday Street for dinner and Peggy Malone's for drinks, and back at the hotel in the residents bar a lot more as well. There is no initiative to promote discounts for residents at the hotel to spend money in the venues owned by the same owner as Scholars. I would have liked to seen a €10 off dinner at Sunday Street as an example. Even though it's well positioned, it's an overpriced, albeit comfortable stay. I have stayed in the same for less - not worth the extra money.
3.0 / 10.0
Small, overpriced accommodation.
The staff was friendly and responsive to an issue we had when we arrived. The venue has a classic look and feel. We did like Peggy Moore's Pub food - great burgers and chips, though I wish I had had one of the cheese platters!
The room was way too small for the furniture, our luggage, and us to move around in. The shower exits requires you to squeeze by, if you're lucky, or sit in the sink. There were lots of stairs from the parking lot to the entrance and then to our room. No elevator which is fine if you don't have luggage but, we had luggage! Small double bed and not very comfy sheets. Way too pricey the accommodations. And Drogheda was so very different from other cities we visited: noisy, trashy, backed up traffic. The combination was really unfortunate.

We only stayed for one night and left early in the morning.
The room was very quiet and had beautifully finished wood panelling and a window we could open. The bed was very comfortable. We slept really well. The shower was spacious. The dining room looked beautiful, although we did not stay for breakfast.
No tea or coffee in the room. It had to be ordered from the breakfast room.

Fantastic Food
Attractive red brick building in a town centre location. Internal decor is atmospheric with wood panelling, highly decorative ceilings and lovely antique furniture and accessories. Our stay was pleasantly memorable as the food served at Dinner and breakfast was excellent and the waiting staff were friendly.
The room and en-suite were extremely small, much smaller than anticipated (we were aware of this from their website description and reviews). The car park is also small and difficult to manoeuvre and park when the hotel is busy. The front of house staff didn’t remember us even though we had checked-in and spoken with them at Reception and one dashed down the corridor ‘challenging’ us after we returned from a walk and went to explore the hotel further looking for a guest lounge - we didn’t find a guest lounge as we swiftly returned to our room feeling unwelcome.

We had a wonderful stay
We had a beautiful clean comfortable room with a four poster bed which we loved. Everything was spotless in bathroom and bedroom. The dinner was amazing as my husband is vegetarian he normally finds it’s difficult to get nice food. He thoroughly enjoyed the Halloumi burger. The food is exceptional. We had a late drink at the bar and all the staff were so lovely and helpful. We loved the breakfast selection so tasty and really good variety to choose from. We left our car parked in the car park in front of the hotel and took taxi’s, our car was perfectly safe. Overall we would definitely come back to stay at Scholars.

The evening meal was small and not filling and the bass fillets were thin and overcooked. This was not what I expected

Great value for travelers looking for a classy, cultured stay.
Charming and well-decorated, extremely classy. The grounds were well-kept, and the staff were attentive and kind.
Some of the fixtures were antiquated. The water pressure was inconsistent, and some of the mattresses were stiff.

Splendid stay!
Loved the bathroom it was so clean and the bed was more than comfortably. Not to over exaggerate too much but it felt like sleeping on a cloud.
There's wasn't much i didn't like at all. Though the room did get so warm at night even with the windows open and I wasn't sure if there was no A/C or i just couldn't find it given it was the middle of night.

Loved the style- in keeping with the age of the building and the historicity. Staff were wonderful and seemingly all young people ie 20’s/30’s! Easy parking and central to town.

We enjoyed a very pleasant visit @ Scholars. We were happy with our room and breakfast/meals.
Polite wait staff, delicious food
A few times there was an issue with a waitress that did not understand English sufficiently. Errors were corrected but it may be better to have English language learners in roles that do not require speaking and understanding English.
Secondly, I received many email/texts asking to "check in" that turned out to be spam trying to get my personal information. That is just informational - I know the hotel was not involved in that.

Sufficient to our needs but overpriced considering no breakfast included.
Quiet with friendly staff.
Water provided in room
No kettle or tea/coffee in room.
Most hotels of this standard provide these.
Two trousers pressers and hair driers seemed excessive!
