The Beacon & Railway Hotel

Lovely staff, great food and very good value for money accommodation. Close enough to Gloucester town centre but set in quiet country side to relax. We used the Hotel as a stopover between Sheffield and Cornwall and the break in the journey was great. Rooms clean and comfortable. Have stayed here twice and would recommend.

Really friendly staff and locals really made me feel welcome and included. Almost like a local pubs for travellers.

Not a dislike but more of an observation, there is a railway line that runs near the property which may affect light sleepers.

Standard double was comfortable and very good for overnight stay. Friendly and attentive staff. Lovely location and peaceful apart from the trains. Good breakfast available but at extra cost

Helpful and friendly staff. Nice picnic benches and tables for sitting outside. Pleasant enough room. Only a mile off the Cotswold Way (but bear in mind it is a steep uphill mile when returning to the trail the next morning).

The room was very small and the bathroom was tiny so there was nowhere really suitable to put our wash bags, make up etc when trying to get ready. It was mainly clean but the carpet hadn't been hoovered properly and was covered in debris. There was a cleaner still in the room when we arrived, so perhaps it wasn't quite ready for us but we did arrive after the check in time provided. Bit of a pain with the kettle as it didn't fit under the tap so had to decant water into it using cups. Not a biggie, just a little annoying. The main issue was noise. Although the pub closed after last orders, a couple of groups had congregated under our window until the early hours singing and shouting until around 3am. Eventually we heard someone go down and deal with it, not sure if this was another guest or the landlady. Closed the window for a while but it had been 32 degrees that day so needed it open. We don't have a problem with noise from a beer garden while the pub is open, but it's not acceptable when it goes on for hours after it has closed. Checked out before staff arrived the next morning so couldn't feed that back in person.
