Location is great. Reasonable choice for breakfast.

Car parking is not guaranteed for hotel guests, especially since staff also use the car parking so you are forced to park on the busy street (where the other cars were half parked on the pavement to avoid getting their wing mirrors clipped). Property was tired. Cracked sink in en-suite, cracked glass in window, shower was pitiful, and the moldy grout needed replacing.

Overpriced and underwhelming

Only the location: we chose the hotel because it was closest to the event we were attending; the view from the car park was nice.

Terrible bathroom: there were lots of little flies in the sink; the old style hot and cold taps in the bath made it impossible to regulate the shower temperature between either scalding or freezing and caused a lot of wasted water; the towels were old, thin, greying and small; the only amenity was a low quality tiny tube of shower gel. A cold room: even though we checked in online in good time and the hotel should have expected us, the radiators were off, not pleasant on a cold rainy November evening. We found the food below average at both lunch and breakfast; the stainless steel teapots were horribly stained inside and grubby on the outside.

Very small room for the price. The bed was very firm, like sleeping on a floor. The restaurant food was average as was the service.

Lovely short stay

Lovely room. Very comfortable bed and good supportive pillows. Lovely freestanding bath and large separate shower. Comfortable temperature able to open window for a little fresh air. Had a delicious meal in adjoining restaurant, only one night stay but felt well rested.

Take your own bath/shower products as those provided were not fab.

A pleasant hotel in a lovely town

Nice staff; lovely food , and a reasonable location

The property needed a little updating. For some reason we had a split level room with the lower level having a number of kitchen units including a sink but clearly not designed for self catering as no cooker. I would have given a higher mark for the review if there had been maybe a couple of seats and a coffee table rather than a kitchen ! As there was only 1 chair available in the bedroom part by the dressing table, if we both wanted to sit down one of us had to use the bed. A minor problem but not a deal breaker.

My wife was recovering from a broken ankle and found the stairs difficult but it didn't spoil our stay.

Very pleasant and helpful staff, excellent food, all areas clean and freshly decorated. Very useful to have on site parking too.

Can't be helped because of the design of the building, but there are lots of stairs. Also, if you have a room outside on the veranda, the last section by the door into the main hotel needs cover - we got wet getting back to our room.

There were a few stairs to climb, which were rather hard for me to climb and come down as I had a hip replacement. But that’s no reflection on the hotel at all. Just to noted for clients with walking disability.

It’s a great location. The room was clean and comfortable, and the breakfast was excellent.I didn’t have much interaction with the staff but those I spoke to were polite and friendly.

I was disappointed not to be able to park in the car park, despite arriving at the earliest check in time, but otherwise everything was fine. It’s a feature of the area and the price to pay for being on the hills, that there isn’t much land for parking etc.

Might have been very nice if the bed had been more comfortable and less noise from surroundings.

Food was good, location of hotel was good and staff were all very polite, especially the young man who helped us with the iron and ironing board. Hotel had a nice olde worlde appeal.

The bed was really small and the pillows were so uncomfortable. It was impossible to get a good nights sleep. Also the location of the room (19?) round a sort of quadrangle with so much continual noise coming from refrigeration units or extractors. Seemed to go on all night. Thank goodness for ear plugs! The smallish room would have been OK apart from all this as we were only staying for a couple of nights to attend a family funeral.

The Mulberry Tree Restaurant was excellent!

Room 18 was overlooking the inner "Utility" courtyard, along with all the constant noise from the kitchen extractor fan. Lack of privacy from people walking past on the veranda. (No net curtains, even!) Room 4's sink was blocked, and water was not running away as it should. Upon mentioning this to reception, we got told "It's always like that. There's nothing we can do about it!". Absolutely diabolical reply! If water is not running away, there will be standing water somewhere, along with the risk of Legionare's Disease There is no excuse. The shower was almost impossible to achieve and maintain a constant comfortable temperature. (The electric shower in the cheaper Room 18 was far better!) If people are paying upwards of £130/night, everything in the room should work properly! Will never stay here again, and certainly won't recommend! (Except for The Mulberry Tree Restaurant)

Great location. All of the staff were excellent. Truthfully the hotel is looking a bit “tired”. The public carpets were very worn/dirty. Our room was fine but friends rooms were small and could do with some upgrading. Understand that is a costly exercise!

Comfy bed, view of the Abby from the front bedroom. Dinner was very nice.

Standard of finish in the hotel is poor, carpets look very worn and dirty (especially on the stairs). Bathrooms need a good refurb. Breakfast was not the best.

We won't be going to The Mount Pleasant again, it wasn't a pleasant experience.

Breakfast was adequate, bacon on first morning was hard and dry. second morning there was an"issue" in the kitchen, no explanation given but there was a considerable wait for hot food.

The room, number 11, was far too small and with a double bed, there was barely room to walk to the side of the bed. The window would only open a few inches and on the hottest weekend of the year so far, a small fan was totally inadequate to cool the atmosphere. The shower room was equally small and the shower tray was smooth and vey slippery. The receptionist stated it was an economy room but I do not consider £295 for 2 nights B & B to be an economy rate!
