Relaxing stay in country style hotel with easy access to the city

Comfortable and relaxing place to stay a stone’s throw from the city centre. It has a country feel to it and yet it is easy to take the metro into the centre. Metro stop a few minutes walk. The centre is Jesmond with lovely shops and cafes is a 15 minute walk away. The room was well equipped with tea/coffee/biscuits and water. Nice toiletries, fluffy towels and bath robes. It was also good to have a radio in the room.

Would have liked instructions on how to pair the Bluetooth radio to my phone so that I could play my own music. But this is a minor point. Overall very happy with my stay.

It’s the middle of winter and the lighting was poor in the bar and we found it gloomy. Our room was dark and looked out at a huge wall- a bit claustrophobic

Amazing hotel, would 100% recommend

The building is amazing looking with great free parking. Our room overlooked the garden and stream. We were offered eco service and given a free drink when choosing this option. The bar was lovely and staff were all really friendly. We choose not to eat in the hotel as someone who is fussy the menu didn’t have great choices for myself. Our room was beautiful with very large toilet.

I did ask for a bath in the room in the requests but was given a shower instead. Not a big deal but a bath would have made the room perfect for myself. There was a few cobwebs In places that seem would have been easy to clean.

Amazing!

We had the most amazing stay here. The room was great, the comfiest bed ever. The food was fantastic. You can order straight from their restaurant to your room. There’s a bar, delicious cocktails. Free parking. Great quiet location. Above all, the staff were so friendly and warm and really made our stay the best it could be. Can’t wait to come back and stay again!

Lovely hotel and grounds

Stayed here with my wife for a friends Wedding Celebration. Room very cozy and comfortable and plenty of amenities including a mini bar, high quality tea and coffee as well as complimentary water. Breakfast was nice. From a menu rather than selecting your own. We had eggs benedict which was quite good.

at breakfast, there were a couple of flies on the exposed breads and cold meats, perhaps they could have had covers on these.

It was a perfect break in a perfect place.

It is the former home of a friend/colleague of the Industrialist/Engineer William Armstrong. The property sits on the edge of Jesmond Dene, formerly owned by William Armstrong and gifted by him to the city of Newcastle. The building is Listed, and as expected, has original fixtures and fittings with some modern features such as bathrooms. There were some lovely little touches in the room, such as little mince pies and gorgeous bath crystals to be used in the huge bath.

Nothing, we loved it as it was exactly what we wanted for our break. Quiet, elegant, good food and drinks, a beautiful setting and very kind and helpful staff. We even loved the creaky floors in our room (3).

The driveway is in a poor state of repair, with potholes. Also the the gardens are in need of proper maintenance .

Staff were lovely. Whole hotel was very well appointed and decorated beautifully for Christmas. Bed was super comy. Ate at a buffet reception party. Breakfast the next morning was very good. Excellent value for a luxurious hotel

It was lovely to be back at this beautiful hotel, and this time it was all decorated for Christmas, the atmosphere everywhere was lovely and the decorations are gorgeous! The staff here are exceptional, you can feel the warm as soon as you arrive at the hotel, everybody is very attentive and kind and friendly

Relaxing and enjoyable

We would have preferred to stay in the main hotel building. Conditions were freezing and icy. The walk from our room to the main hotel building was poorly lit which made conditions even more hazardous. Better lighting definitely needed.

The food was exceptional. Breakfast is excellent, but dinner was spectacular. The cocktail menu is fun. Service was always warm. The room was very comfortable & quiet. The grounds are beautiful: we went on a walk through the trails & my partner enjoyed jogging in the park.

Personally, the muzak piano soundtrack playing in the restaurant/bar/public areas drove me bananas. I opted to wear earplugs but missed listening to the charming conversations going on around me when I sat in front of the fireplace.

Beautiful, very comfortable hotel with great staff and food

Beautiful building renovated with good taste, with very comfortable rooms and good showers. Incredibly friendly staff and nice touches like showing us to the rooms. The food on the bar menu is excellent and while fairly pricy highly recommended. The location on the edge of Jesmond Dene is picturesque but the metro to town is only a 10 minute walk away.

Very little to complain about. One of our three rooms looked onto a stone wall over the roof kitchen roof, while the other standard room had a nice view, so that can be a bit hit and miss. Toilets have been installed incorrectly at the wrong height (too low) and grouting on the shower floor could do with a good clean or replacing. However, some of the other negative comments about state of hotel appear totally unjustified.

We stayed over as wedding guests and thoroughly enjoyed the whole affair

A little disappointed with the two flights of stairs up to the room, which we were not made aware of. If you did not have a mobile phone to access the qr code you would have to ring reception to find out such information as breakfast time etc and check out time. Sometimes just useful to have this information to hand

A lovely hotel, a welcome change from the big city hotels.

The setting of the hotel is great, on the edge of Jesmond Dene, but a short car ride or Metro into Newcastle city centre. However, Jesmond is a thriving suburb with lots of good restaurants & independent shops. The hotel itself was very beautiful, with a cosy lounge & bar. The breakfast was very good & the room warm & comfortable with a double sink bathroom & walk in shower. All the staff we encountered were very friendly & helpful.

Our room booking already included breakfast so we invited our sons to have breakfast with us as they were staying at the house of one them. We were told we didn’t need to prebook & pay so we were a little annoyed to find that a service charge had been added to the cost of their breakfasts when we settled our bill. I completely understand on the bar purchases & room service, but not for breakfast.
