Loved staying at Max Brown! Everything was perfect: from its location (close to the station and downtown, but located in a rather quiet street) to the amenities. The biggest thumbs up goes for a bathtub, which isn't a default option in most hotels anymore. Also, a kettle is always a big plus for me. Apart from the cozy and quirky (in a good way) room, I really appreciated the common space (lounge area) downstairs that is welcoming and accommodating for work and leisure. The record player in a room is just a cherry on top—everything was created for a comfortable stay here.
Grammar error in one of the decorative posters in the room (not really something I didn't like, but it made me chuckle).

The location is hard to beat, if you want to experience Little Tokyo, but it comes with its (obvious) downsides. For what we wanted, it was perfectly located with the metro and main station close by. Downtown and the Rhine walkways are a 10-15 minute walk away or easy to reach with public transport. The rooms were nice, bright and clean, but on the side of tiny. For a two night stay, they were absolutely fine for us. The mattresses were medium firm and you had two different pillows of two different sizes to choose from. They have a pool table in the lobby/lounge, which entertained us for quite a while. The hotel staff is mindful of the noise, though, so you can only play between 11:00-22:00, which we appreciated a lot. The bar and lounge area were very nice as well.
The rooms heat up quickly, so one has to plan for airing out before bed time, which requires some logistics as the rooms are Tokyo-sized (=very small). In one of our rooms the safe didn't work, in the other the fan didn't, so that wasn't too amazing. As for the obvious downside to such a centrally located hotel: there are loud drunk people on the streets at all hours of the night. Shocker, right? Be aware, pack your ear plugs and all is good.

It was comfortable, stylish and the staff were friendly. The aesthetics were interesting/quirky and the soft ball + basket ball hoop in the room was fun.
We were there during a heatwave (30°C/86°F) and the room only had a mostly functional tower fan with a broken base. The room we stayed in was also cramped for two people and needed a lot of shimmying around each other. While the bare bulbs were a nice aesthetic, they were also right at eye level/above the head of the bed and could be quite bright. Some frosting or simple light shades would really help out.
