Villa Marea

Villa Marea is a lovely friendly bed and breakfast. We had one of the suites and it was really spacious. Everything was spotlessly clean. The pool is lovely with loungers around and there was a great spread at breakfast. Everyone working there was super friendly and it was a great chilled out holiday destination.

It’s quite a walk from town and there’s not really good public transport so if you’re not confident or able to ride a bike it’s a good 30 min walk. That would normally be fine but we were there in an August heatwave so didn’t really walk into Rovinj till the evening when it was cooler. The free bikes are good though. Also there was only one air con until for the suite and it was outside the bedroom so the air didn’t flow in well - but again that’s probably more of an issue in a heatwave!

Lovely peaceful location 5 minutes from the beach. Staff were friendly and helpful. Room was comfortable and had everything we needed. We had a very relaxing couple of days and wished we'd booked for longer.

Location

We chose this accommodation due to Rovinj's great location, but considering the €200 per night price tag and the 4-star rating, the quality of services fell far short of expectations. The hotel seems to be cost-cutting across multiple areas. Inadequate kitchen amenities: We rented a studio, but the fridge didn't even include a small freezer compartment. Basic kitchen essentials like salt and pepper were completely missing—a minimal basic setup should be standard for a 4-star apartment. Underwhelming breakfast selection: The breakfast buffet felt more like that of a budget guest house. Hot options were strictly limited to scrambled and fried eggs. The buffet was filled with cheap, store-bought plastic yogurt tubs and processed cheese triangles, the coffee was low-quality machine coffee, and no plant-based milk was available. Even the apple juice was served straight from a store-bought Lidl plastic bottle. The presentation (plastic display racks, bottled condiments) gave off a very basic vibe. The only redeeming feature was the decent selection of fresh fruit. Lack of atmosphere: Breakfast was eaten in total, awkward silence. Playing soft background music would go a long way in making the morning experience feel welcoming rather than uncomfortable. Cheap and non-functional bathroom fittings: Instead of separate shampoo and shower gel, there was only a combined all-in-one dispenser. To make matters worse, the wall-mounted hairdryer was completely out of order. Luckily, I managed to find an extra hairdryer stored next to the safe—only to discover that it didn't work either. Distant service: The property is run by a family who seem polite enough (the father kindly lent us a pump for our beach gear, which we appreciated). However, hospitality was lacking. Sitting at reception every morning without a simple smile, a warm greeting, or asking how our stay was made us feel completely ignored.
