Amazing location, a small walk away from John o groats / 2 minute drive away. The property had very secure parking and the owner was nice and friendly. The cottage itself has history which is interesting, and for the price you can’t go wrong

The facilities were pretty outdated, the shower for example had slow water pressure and randomly the hot water stopped working. But like I said previously, for the price you can’t complain, overall it was a very pleasant stay

The location was great for visiting John O'Groats. The hostess clearly loved this part of the world and was very informative and helpful on places to stay. The size of the accomodation was good, nice size bedroom.

I wasn't going to review as if I can't say something nice, then I try to say nothing. However on reflection perhaps it will help the hostess to explain why we left early in our booking, and it wasn't because of the weather. We are touring UK (did europe last year) so we are frequent travellers and some stays are better than others. However if my children are happy and comfortable, then that is good for me too. When we arrived I had such poor signal that I hadn't been able to call with exact time. However we arrived in the afternoon so not at an inhospitable time. The hostess was not very happy, and I did apologise profusely. She did accept this and showed me the property. She complained that she was tired from cleaning it and she is managing the properties on her own and is an older lady, so it is a lot for her to do. When showing me around, she was very critical of the previous people who stayed who had left some electric items on and left her faulty dripped tap insufficiently turned off. She was extremely clear she wanted all electrics off when we were out and repeated this many times. However then asked for £25 for 3 night stay for electric (not metered). This seemed excessive for a short stay and no meter reading or rates, just a flat amount. Only because I re-read the booking info did she concede it was only £20 not £25. However, if this makes a difference to her, then she is welcome to it. Other than that, she was extremely polite. Now to the property... this could be a super place to stay, however it needs care and improvement throughout. Basics like having lightbulbs and also lightbulbs that work would help. The mattresses are extremely uncomfortable and you literally can feel almost all the springs. The sofa is uncomfortable and again very old. The chairs for dining table are far too low except for 3 of them. In one of the bedrooms, you could hear scratching in the corner of wall from either mice or rats.
