About this house rental

The Toll House at Whispertree is a historic Boonville landmark built in 1912. A two-hour drive north from the San Francisco Bay Area, this four bedroom home and its accompanying 650 acres of land are conveniently located along the Boonville-Ukiah Road just five miles from the unique town of Boonville in Anderson Valley. The Toll House offers easy access to local wineries, events (including the Mendocino County Fair and the Pinot Noir Festival), and the award-winning Anderson Valley Brewing Company.

The new owners of the Toll House renovated the Inn in 2009. Decorated in a rustic yet modern and tasteful style, the Toll House was run as an Inn for a year until it became, exclusively, a whole-house rental. The Toll House has 4 bedrooms, 4 1/2 baths and can sleep up to 12 people. The Toll House's charm immediately captivates with the inviting wrap around porch and lush and spacious rear yard and garden. The rooms are inviting, warm and comfortable with wonderful views of the valley. The living room offers a cozy yet spacious gathering place with fireplace and views into the gardens. The dining room, with a large oak table made from trees from the Bell Valley, gives families and guests lots of room to enjoy an evening meal while looking out on the garden. The farmhouse kitchen is one-of-a-kind with natural lighting, all the necessary appliances, and a magnificent commercial stove and oven. The Inn sits on hundreds of secluded acres excellent for hiking, exploring, or finding the perfect spot for a relaxing afternoon picnic. There is a large cedar hot tub in the back yard and a private swimming pond a short hike away.

Surpassed Descriptions and Expectations
The Toll House Inn was a perfect home-away-from-home: it was roomier, quainter, and better stocked than a normal home and also within a quick drive to lots of fun things. We rented all the rooms of the Toll House in early December 2016 for a weekend getaway with 11 friends. Using it as a home base starting Friday night, we ventured to hikes in old growth redwood forests, wine-tasting rooms, farmstands, and brewery tap rooms for the next couple days. I think we were generally surprised by some of the perks that the house offered: gorgeous stargazing, a library of books about Anderson Valley, a location only a few minutes away from Booneville, well maintained trails on the property, relatively classy décor (steering away from other B&B’s tendency for extensive knickknack-based interiors), and the extensive kitchenware and the industrial size gas range. The kitchen did surprisingly well in holding all 11 people at times, but also during the evenings we spread out to the dining room and living room for card, board games, and generally idle lounging by fire places. To acknowledge a few downsides: the convection oven was a bit temperamental, the house a bit creaky (didn’t take long for everyone to be up as soon as a few people started moving around), and the noise from logging trucks on the highway was quite audible. Overall, everyone in our party thought it was a great place and there was much murmuring that we should do a reprise, partially because we didn’t get to spend enough time hanging out at the Toll House Inn and the grounds, but also because we didn’t get to finish enjoying the nearby attractions.

Fantastic charm
Fantastic charm
As a residential architect, I was very impressed with all the attention to detail at the inn. The care and thought is evident at every turn. The place is comfortable, welcoming and has ample space to relax, cook and have a good time for our 4 families that came together for the stay at the toll house.

This is one of most favorite places I have ever reserved through VRBO. The house was amazing, cozy, fantastic. The decor is gorgeous. I felt like I stepped into a Sundance Catalog. We absolutely enjoyed our stay at the Toll House. We had the best kitchen breakfasts every morning. We had the opportunity to meet the owners and they couldn't have been more sweet and informative. I would stay here in a heartbeat again....just to get away from city life. Thank you for everything. I hope we left the home in perfect condition when we left. We valued and respected your amazing home.
