We enjoyed our stay in the hotel. The owner was especially attentive and friendly.

The owner was very friendly and welcoming. The hotel was more like a guest house than a hotel that belonged to a big chain so it had a more personal touch.

It was a little far from the centre but this was easily resolved by an excellent local taxi service.

The bathroom, while usable, was the smallest I've ever seen (even smaller than a cruise ship bathroom). Also, very small TV, very high up, so difficult to read anything on the screen.

I spent two weeks there and I will definitely be happy to return in the future.

The extremely friendly and funny landlord takes great care to provide all the comforts during your stay. The ideal location means you can get everywhere on foot, but on the other hand, you still feel like you're living outside the hustle and bustle that characterizes the city center.

The bed was comfy

Room very cramped. Difficult to get round. Mouldy net curtains. No hooks for towels. A large towel each and only one hand towel. Radiator rusty. Step into bathroom of about 1 inch, extreme trip hazard. Breakfast was included, however paid 10p per person per day. Odd.

Good value friendly stay.

Great breakfast. Good shower. Clean in all areas. The bedroom was very warm but thankfully there were openable windows in the bedroom and the ensuite. We managed to get one of the property's 3-4 off-road parking spots. Would stay again.

Slightly noisy floorboards above our room would be our only complaint.

Breakfast was excellent especially for the price. Fruit, yogurt, choice of cereals, cheeses and meats, boiled egg, toast, pastries tea or coffee and orange juice. I found my stay very relaxed. Room and front door key meant I could come and go when I wanted. I stayed five nights. TV in my room. Also a kettle and tea and coffee provided. A chair and wardrobe with hangers too. Location was great. Number 1 bus from the station to about a ten minute walk away or possible to change buses in the town to a number 2 which stopped right outside. I came by train but there was parking available. I chose to stay in a single room without an en-suite (cheaper) and the facilities were close by and only shared by a couple of other people.

I booked 2 nights but had to leave after one night as staying another night in that hotel was terrifying for me . Never

very old rusty bathroom ( rust and grease on everything!), extremely tiny bathroom , no space between toilet and sink, toilet sit was broken, shower hose is short, no locker on bathroom door, no space to undress in the bathroom . One of towel given to us was really smelly ( looks like not washed ) . We put smelly towel on the floor in the morning and when we came back during the day it was placed on the towel holder suggesting we are using it again.

It was a nice stay, with super breakfast and a perfect location to explore the city from.

The owner was super nice and helpful both with us and with other travellers. We particularly liked the breakfast, where he was super attentive to any issues and requests. The location is convenient, there are restaurants, pubs, cafes as well as a Coop supermarket close by and the river Cam and Jesus Green park is within a walking distance too.

Our room was looking at a somewhat busy street and traffic was clearly audible. In the bathroom some parts were a little rusty, but the room was still overall clean.

Very nice stay in a homelike atmosphere

The host is very kind, has excellent humor, was always up for a chat, and answered all my questions about Cambridge. Very "at home" atmosphere. Bed mattress was excellent. Everything very clean. Location is perfect to visit the May bumps rowing competition on the Cam, which was the main purpose of my visit :-) The main part of town (where all the colleges etc are) can be reached by foot within 15 min.

Cosy room not far from Cambridge University and a very kind host.

I needed an accommodation near the Cambridge University St. John's college and was happy to have stayed in the Carlton Lodge. The host is very kind and even provided me a power adapter since I forgot to bring mine. It was always nice to have a chat with him. The room was cozy and warm, with a TV, water sink, and kettle - for me, everything I needed. The WC was directly nearby. All in all a very nice stay - thanks a lot! :)

Great location for a gig at the The Portland Arms, and for walking into Cambridge. Having a parking space was an added bonus. Ciaran was very friendly host and the room was comfortable and quiet. Had a great night's sleep. Compact but clean bathroom.

Familiar & cosy

I had a lovely stay at Carlton Lodge. Their location is perfect for anyone wanting to walk around beautiful Cambridge and breakfast has everything you need to start your day well. My bed was very comfy and, all in all, I truly felt at home. Ciaran is an excellent sparring partner with a very kind presence. I can only recommend having all the nice chats!

Proprietor was friendly, welcoming, and helpful. Breakfast was egg-cellent, happy it was included. Bathrooms a little small, but to be expected for an English bed and breakfast.
