Douar Samra

Loved the views, relaxed space and beautiful garden. Food was generous and extremely good. Very easy to connect with the guides for hiking. Accommodation our changing plans and kept our luggage in storage for free when we went trekking.

The beds were far too overdone. It was heatwave, very hot and they were made with heavy duvet, thick blankets a top blanket, sheepskin and pillows. It looked beautiful and would not have mattered but the rooms are small for 3 people plus luggage. We only needed a sheet and the option of a thin blanket. Without fans the rooms were very hot and it was hard to sleep. Dressing the rooms according to the season would save unnecessary washing too. I found Mohammed was very kind and really keen on our hikes, but perhaps impatient to get through mealtimes (which mattered less to me travelling with young kids who needed to get to bed early anyway). He was also less than subtle in asking for tips, which I'd have been more inclined to give more generously without the hints. On the other hand he seemed very genuine and congratulatory when the kids managed their 5 days of hiking. None of the above would stop me going back and using Douar Samra as a base for trekking again. We really enjoyed our time there & the communal dining meant I met plenty of other people which is important when travelling as a single parent.

Everything was amazing. Breakfast and dinner, the traditional style of the accommodations, the views from the terraces, the atmosphere, the hikes, the staff... I could go on.

Douar Samra is a very special place to be. The interior is incredibly beautiful, handcrafted, very colourful and makes such a comfortable atmosphere. You can really get to learn about the Berber culture here. Mohammad has a very warm and calm soul, he was truly welcoming and cared about us having a good time in Imlil. He helped us getting transports and organized a very nice guide for the hiking in the mointains. Exept of this, he must be the best cook up in the mountains! :) He has his own vegetables growing in the garden at Douar Samra. The food was delicious and so healthy! The dinner was one of our highlights! We hope to come back soon...

The food at this place is outstanding - the best food we had in Morocco. The dining area was very relaxing after a day of walking and/or traveling and you just have to let yourself chill out and slow down.

Be prepared for very basic accommodation. No electricity in our room (some rooms had it), heating by fire (and therefore smoke in room), access by foot and/or promised donkey. The weather was quite wet which made the surrounding paths muddy and the overall feel quite dark and damp. But we got lucky on the day we did a walk - it was mostly clear and we had good guidance from the man at the hotel. We enjoyed a good hike up to the snowline and cafe at approx. 2000m. We had to borrow a torch to read at night. The plumbing is basic.
