Our stay at Motomiya was exceptional and I couldn’t recommend it more. It was slightly outside of town but right on the Nakasendo way. As we planned to walk from Magome to Tsumago, this extended our walk by about 15 minutes but we got to see a different part of the route. The owner was an outstanding host and the food was delicious. She even gave us information on a direct bus to our next destination, which saved us 2 hours and two transfers vs our original plan. The accommodation was a little more casual than the ryokans we stayed in and we enjoyed that. We knew we would have shared bathrooms and it was fine as there are only 3 rooms in the Inn so we were staying with one other family. The showers had doors and a small changing area, so we had complete privacy except for the sinks. All in all I would highly recommend this place.

It’s exactly like what you see in the photos. Rustic authentic Japanese experience. Dinner and breakfast are incredible- beautifully plated, many different interesting local dishes/taste. Very friendly, helpful host.
Would have been superb if there’s was an onsen bath.
