About this apartment rental

Just steps away from the Ponte Vecchio, on the “Oltrarno” side of the historic center of Florence, this lovely and elegant home provides all of the comforts of the modern world combined with the rich history of the 15th Century.

This home used to be the 'Forni Reali' or royal bakery serving the Medici and later the Italian royal family when they occupied the Palazzo Pitti. It comprises 130 square meters (approx. 1,399 sq. ft), and has 3 bedrooms, each with private bathroom, a large living room and fully-equipped modern kitchen, small study and additional half bath. The apartment sleeps 6-8 people, and wraps around a lovely courtyard garden adorned with flowers, fountain and goldfish. Decorated both for comfort and charm, the home contains an eclectic mix of antiques and modern furniture.

The apartment has its own separate entrance on the ground floor, only one step up from the street, and is equipped with all necessary amenities, including central heat and air conditioning, satellite t.v. and DVD/VCR player, Internet connection, dishwasher, full size refrigerator, and washing machine. One of the owners is an artist who splits his time between Florence and New York City, and many of his original artworks are exhibited in the home, including large oil paintings in the living room, and frescoes in the bedroom.

The apartment is located on a pedestrian-only street just off a charming piazza. There you will find a famous restaurant and delightful cafe. Just 3-4 minutes away you will find the Ponte Vecchio, and you can walk to the Duomo and Piazza della Signoria in 5-10 minutes. A parking garage is located 1 minute away, and local bus stops servicing all parts of the city are also just minutes away.

We stayed in this Florence apartment for the entire month of January 2026, and it truly became our home away from home.If you’re looking for a sleek, ultra-modern renovation, this is not that—and that is exactly why we loved it. The apartment is full of authentic Florentine character, charm, and warmth, while still being very comfortable for a long stay. It felt like a real home, not a temporary rental. The space was ideal for daily living and hosting friends and family who visited throughout the month. We cooked often, shared meals and wine, did laundry, and genuinely settled into life here. The location could not have been better. We’ve visited Florence many times and stayed in other areas, but living in the Oltrarno showed us what we had been missing. The neighborhood feels local and less touristy, yet everything is walkable, including the train station. The piazza is a gem, with a great local bar next door, excellent restaurants and pizza across the square, one of the best gelato spots in Florence nearby, and our favorite coffee just around the corner.Genta was a wonderful host—kind, responsive, and incredibly helpful. She coordinated drivers and even helped recover delayed luggage using an AirTag, truly going above and beyond. When we return to Florence, we will stay here again. This apartment let us experience living in Florence, not just visiting it. Highly recommended.

The location of the garden house was amazing! It's just off a piazza that is a local hangout and the gelateria was the best in the Oltarano. It was lively and fun. The street noise in the living room was loud sometimes, which added to the fun local feel, and the bedrooms were always quiet and peaceful. The heat in the back bedroom didn't work but the property manager provided a space heater. The blankets were cozy so the space heater was only turned on in the morning before getting out of bed.

Could use some maintenance to fix some of the kitchen appliances, air conditioning and bathrooms.
