About this apartment rental

Sunny north-facing apartment in the Paihia valley just two minutes' walk from town. Part of a complete rebuild in 2016 now called North Base, the apartment was initially developed as owners' accommodation and is now offered as a luxury holiday pad.

North Base Apartment has one bedroom with queen bed, heat pump, spa bath and modern fixtures. There is a Queen Murphy bed in the lounge that can be made up by arrangement. (extra person charge applies if only two person booking)

There's a washing machine and shared drier & washing line.

The north-facing patio has seating for four plus a commercial BBQ with s/s hot plate.

If staying with young children, the pullout couch in the apartment is an option.

There is parking for one car, two at a squeeze or a car and a boat with the trailer detached. The school car park directly across the road is available on weekends and holidays.

North Base Apartment and the patio is very private from the accommodation above. The driveway goes past the front door and does give opportunity to say hello to other guests but otherwise you should not notice that they are there.

We stayed for just over a week and found it perfect for what we needed. Located in the heart of Paihia, everything was in walking distance or a short drive. The place was very comfortable and had everything we needed. Host was very friendly and helpful. It was lovely we could have our small dog with us and made our stay even better.

Excellent location very well equipped and comfortable. If using pull down bed be aware of it's weight. Thought might be given for an extra cupboard for clothes if using this bed. Can recommend this property.

Robert’s apartment was ideal for our 9 day stay in Paihia. Loads of room in the apartment, and the location couldn’t have been better. We could walk to everything in town. The kitchen was well appointed, the bed was super comfortable, and the bathroom was updated. Robert was responsive to all our questions and most accommodating. We would definitely rent this spot again.

We were comfortable but there was no toilet paper, one tea bag, the TV didn't work. The cabin was comfortable but was not vacuumed. The beauty products were good. Unfortunately the people upstairs had a loud party on our last which was still going at 11.30.

Disappointing Stay

Disappointing Stay

The property was advertised with what appeared to be very good cleaning practices but that was not our experience when we arrived. The Kitchen required extensive cleaning with Sticky dirty surfaces. After pulling out filthy Pots & Pans we stopped cleaning & decided not to use the kitchen for cooking meals which we had wanted to do to minimise our Covid exposure. The overall standard of apartment cleaning was poor. We acknowledge we left it until late in our stay to raise our concerns with the owner but we did not want to get into a confrontation with the owner while trying to have a relaxing break. The wisdom of this judgement was borne out when we phoned to say we were leaving a day early because of our disappointment. The owner initially admitted that he was not a cleaner but had completed the cleaning himself. He said he had let himself down. He offered to reimburse us for one night’s accomodation. When I responded, that was the least he could do because we had not had full use of the apartment and to charge a cleaning fee was clearly inappropriate, the owner then denied the place was unclean, saying that was not how he left it. ie insulting us by implying we were fabricating / being dishonest. Needless to say we have not received any refund This is both the first time we have felt let down on a Bookabach booking & the first negative review we have posted
