About this apartment rental

Luxurious duplex apartment refurbished in 2018 located in an historic building across from the Palais des Papes.

The access is Place du Palais but the apartment is very quiet since totally overlooking one of the famous secret gardens of the town.

The apartment has a surface area of approximately 62 sq.m. and consists of a first floor with living room and open-plan equipped kitchen and a second level with a 20 sq.m bedroom with 2 twin beds 80 cm large ( or a double : 160 cm x 200 cm ) and a small adjacent bedroom with 2 twin beds 70 cm x 190 cm ( or a double 140 cm x 190 cm ).
This bedroom is better for teen agers or a couple for a short stay since not very large.

Between the 2 levels, bathroom consisting of italian shower and toilets.
WiFi, TV, and CD player/radio in the living room.

Air Conditioning in the living room and the 2 bedrooms.

You will find modern furniture, vintage pieces and artwork.

An underground toll park space is at 30 meters. Price : 19 Euros per day or 60 Euros for a week. If you stay more than 2 days, it is cheaper to take the week rate ticket. ( not available in summer ).
You have a free park space outside the walls with free shuttle.

Beware the apartment has a lot of stairs and is not adapted to people who walk not easily.

We had a wonderful two night stay in Avignon and Alain was a very communicative host who quickly responded to our messages and questions. We drove and he let us know that the paid underground parking at the Palais des Papes was the closest parking lot available, and indeed, it was very convenient. He met us at the apartment, showed us how everything worked, and was kind to let us drop our bags before our check in time. The apartment was light, airy, well equipped, and perfectly located across the pedestrian only square from the Palais. We really enjoyed our stay there!

Previous reviews say it all. Alain is a gracious host, settled us into the unit, showing us all the amenities, and guided us to the market for groceries. The quiet unit is cozy and charming, and overlooks a beautiful courtyard garden.The location is the best, step out the front door and onto the square in front of the Palace of the Popes. Although the apartment is on four levels, the stairs were not an issue for us. Absolutely enjoyed our stay,

Alain met us to let us in at the front door and explained the apartment nuisances. He was correct to mention there are stairs. The apartment is 4 levels with a winding spiral staircase. Lots of amenities and space. The back of the apartment looks out to a sweet garden and the front of the apartment looks directly at the Popes Palace, great location. The city is a great destination with lots to enjoy and much ancient history. There are very good restaurants as well.

This apartment was a great size, very chic and in the middle of all the sights. It was very quiet inside and then a step out the main door and everything you want in Avignon is right there to soak up. Alain was very responsive and helpful with any information we were seeking.

We stayed here for 9 nights which gave us time to explore Avignon well and to use it as an excellent base to return to after various day trips. We took the train (easy walk to Avignon station) to L'Orange, Arles and Marseille. All were lovely day trips although Marseille being further and larger, we were only able to see the highlights. We also rented a car to drive in the countryside of the Luberon Valley and to Pont du Gard. The views are gorgeous in these areas. Always nice to come back to this apartment after a day of exploring. Alain's place is spacious for 2-3 people, it does have a set of stairs to the main floor and another to the bedrooms. Having the Palace across from your front entrance is a bonus as it's such a remarkable monument. Alain is a very friendly and kind host.

The perfect location in this enchanting walled city. Alain is an excellent host who gave us recommendations of where to shop, what to see. We spent a wonderful week in this apartment.

Alain's place has all you need for an extended stay in Avignon. A great location, a well appointed kitchen and dining area, and a very comfy bed. That said, this would not be a good place for someone who might have trouble negotiating stairs. My wife and I are in our mid 70's in good health and physical shape and we had no problems with the apartment. A good restaurant is right outside the front door. Stay off the main drag and explore the city on foot if you can. The Calvet Museum is a must see and the best of all the museums in Avignon. Some nice Brueghel the Younger paintings are there. Great little sandwich shop on the main drag, Rue de la Republique and the corner of Rue Mignard. The Palace of the Popes is beautiful outside, but inside is a disappointment. Much like an empty great hall of concrete. The best part was getting to the upper ramparts and the view from there. Three days is about all you'll need. Weekends are busiest.

We really enjoyed our stay here. It is in a great location, right across from the palace. Even though it is on a busy square, the apartment itself is very quiet, with a lovely shaded courtyard. The apartment is clean and well taken care of, with lots of little thoughtful things to make your stay more pleasant. The bed and pillows were quite comfortable, and the AC was highly effective (it was unseasonably hot during our stay and the apartment was always cool!). Communication with Alain was great. Even though we arrived a day late due to issues with the trains, Alain was there to welcome us. He showed us around the apartment and left us a lovely bottle of wine. The parking he recommended was perfect - the entrance is right across from the apartment. We would definitely stay here again if we return to Avignon!

We had a wonderful stay at Alain's apartment. The location is fabulous - you walk out the front door and you are right in front of Palais des Papes. There are restaurants, cafes and supermarkets all around the area. It was perfect for us. Alain was very good at keeping in touch with us and we appreciated the warm welcome (and fresh home-made lemonade) when we arrived. The apartment is cosy and is well equipped - we appreciated the washing machine and the air con was vital as it was very very hot. We had a great time in Avignon and would definitely stay at Alain's place again.

We loved the historic building, unique architecture of the former guard tower, and central location on the square facing the palace. The A/C was much appreciated! Fantastic all around!

My husband and I stayed with Alain from May 10 - 15, 2024. The apartment’s setting is outstanding: across from the Palais de Papes, and central to all things in Provence. Alain is a very gracious host, providing suggestions (and reservations) for wonderful restaurants and bistros. He touched base with us periodically to ensure we were enjoying our stay; he even added a baguette to his morning order when we asked where we could find a good boulangerie. We highly recommend staying here if your travels take you to Avignon!

We had travel problems and did not arrive until 1AM the day AFTER we were supposed to arrive. Alain left the front door unlocked for us and communicated with us until 30 minutes before we arrived to ensure we made it. Parking is great, park close to the main elevator bank. Apartment has steps, it's worth it for the incredible location alone. Stairwell is beautiful, kitchen living room is spacious and the windows (they open) into the courtyard made it airy and fresh. Great shower. Traveling with a friend of 50 years, highly recommend Alain's place!

This apartment is really spacious and was perfect for our family of four. Moreover it is in an unbelievable location, opening straight onto the Palais du Papes, and really close to just about everything you need in Avignon. The small room with two single beds was quite confined for two teenagers, but with a large sitting room, it wasn’t a problem at all. The kitchen is well stocked and the bathroom adequate - the inclusion of a washing machine was a valuable one for us, and the heating excellent in winter such that clothes dried quickly. We were met by the host, who had great communication in the lead-up, and who manages a B&B in the same building. This made it all seamless at check-in. All in all an excellent stay and definitely somewhere we would return to in Avignon - thank you!

Super comfortable, and very unique. Location couldn’t be better. The parking the owner recommends is quite literally steps from the front door and very convenient. Alain was lovely, history of the apartment was fascinating. The apartment was quiet despite being on a very busy central square. Very functional with comfortable beds and pillows. Laundry and drying racks were helpful. Nespresso for coffee in the mornings is always a plus for us. There were some squawky pigeons but that’s the only thing remotely negative I can think of. I would absolutely stay again.

I have rented many VRBOs over the years and have never been more impressed with the communication and thoughtfulness of our host in giving detailed instructions on everything- how to get there, how to run all the appliances, where to park, what to see, how to find things.... It was a pleasure. The apartment was more comfortable than most I have rented and the location was terrific. The only drawback was that the apartment was on 3 floors. I didn't mind the stairs because I got to burn off the calories from the wonderful French cooking and desserts.

This place was a perfect base to explore Avignon and the surrounding area. It was really fun to be right next to the Papal Palace. The property itself was really comfortable but also had great character. Alain was a great host and so friendly! We parked our car in the nearby garage that was fairly expensive, but we did use the weekly rate and that it made it worthwhile for us. I would stay at this place again for sure the next time we're in the area!
