Very quirky interesting hotel .
Comfortable and clean and we found it easy to park outside. Dog friendly and friendly owners.
Sadly we didn’t get to try dinner as the restaurant was booked for a party . Breakfast was very good.

We had cycled to Briare from the outskirts of Paris and arrived around 4pm on a Sunday evening. The accommodation was lovely and there was a secure area for us to store our bikes. We set off early the next day but not before enjoying a breakfast including pastries, fruit, yogurts, juice and coffee.

We were travelling by bicycle and there was safe cycle storage for our bicycles. The hotel proprietor very pleasant. Restaurant at the hotel, although we didn't use it. Briare is on the Loire a Velo cycle route.

Very easy to get there and the staff was very kind. I strongly suggest to try their couscous: bad amazing and delicious.

We enjoyed our stay in this unusual hotel, nothing was too much trouble for Marie-Claire and her assistant, all as said in other reviews. I wish I had taken a photo of the tagine, it wouldn’t be out of place in an art gallery. Briare is a perfect base for cycling trips along the river and the canals.
Due to the exceptionally hot weather we had to leave the window open. Our room was at the front of the hotel so there was traffic noise, quite a busy road. Just unfortunate.

Marie Claire and Patrick made us feel very welcome. Just like going to your parents house. They gave us coffee and drinks as they knew we had been driving from Scotland. The house and bedroom were very quirky and the Marilyn monroe bedroom was just brilliant. The bedroom was very clean and the bed was very comfortable. We had a great night sleep. Breakfast was just what we needed to set us off on our adventures again, fresh and lots of coffee. We will definitely return as it's very very homely and just what you need in a different country. Thank you very much x

What a fantastic little find. A lovely, quirky homely hotel. A really nice room which was immaculately clean. Lovely touch with chocolate and water in room.

Very hospitable owners. Great dinner at the restaurant. Garage for the bicycles. We stayed in the Marilyn themed room which was a bit of fun. Great value hotel.
The hotel is centrally located on the main road so its noisy with the windows open.

Marie Claire is the ultimate host. Outgoing, happy, communicative. Simply wonderful. The rooms have themes that are a joy. This is a quirky place in the best sense of the word.
No complaints whatsoever. It couldn't be improved upon.

Marie is warm and welcoming. The hotel is in a good location. If you like quirky accommodations, unlike the usual cookie cutter hotels, this is for you! Be aware of a narrow, steep staircase.

The hotel is owned by a friendly and engaging Algerian & French couple who couldn't do enough for us , the room was quirky but great and quite roomy.
There is a nice garage for bicycle storage and Briarre is an interesting and beautiful town crossed by canals , you must go to the Boucherie near the main church to see what an artisan butcher can produce.
The Algerian restaurant attached to the hotel is run by the owners has delicious and very generous servings and fantastic wines.
A great overnight stay for us.

Quirky decor.
The friendly hospitality of the hostess.
The breakfast was excellent….the best in France! Wonderful choice of bread, croissants, jam, honey, yoghurt, fruit juice, fresh fruit and many other items.
Tea (various types) and coffee and biscuits provided in the room. Tiny fridge with bottles of water.
The bedside light was very bright.
Stairs are steep ( but we are rather elderly!)

This is a quirky location. Marie-Claire is extremely welcoming, and guests have the option of booking to have couscous or tagine (must book two hours in advance) for dinner. Our room was Marilyn Monroe-themed almost to an extreme – we had to smile. Room and dinner combined came at an amazingly good price — this was the cheapest stop on our trip, and we'd be happy to stay there again.

Marie Claire is a delightful person and a fantastic host. The breakfast was the best we encountered on our bike ride from Nantes.

After a long cycle ride we were amazed by the beauty of Briare and the fabulous stay at La Grillade. Our hosts were amazingly helpful and prepared a delicious North African meal for just the 2 of us in the restaurant on the night we stayed.
We wandered around the beautiful town as the sun set - there is an amazing series of canals right by the river. The canal bridge/aqueduct is incredibly beautiful.
We stayed in the large suite in the loft area which is very spacious and quirkily decorated with lots of Algerian furniture and artefacts. The bed was a very welcome comfort after a day on the bikes and we had a very restful night. Tall people will need to watch their heads on some of the low beams!
Our bikes were stored securely overnight and we were sad to leave.
It was all great!

Such a delightful little property run by a lovely french lady who adored our little girl!
The property is very quirky but in a good way and it has bags of character!
Not really a dislike but the owner only spoke a tiny bit of English.
Also the stairs in the property are very steep so not great for those with mobility issues.

La Grillade is perfectly positioned in a town (Briare) in the middle of France. This is excellent for a stopover if you are travelling with a car to south of France. We stayed in this Hotel for one night. This is a small family run Hotel. We enjoyed the hospitality of Marie Claire the owner of the Hotel. She is very kind and tries to help the best she can. She speaks a little English and we spoke a little French so communication was not easy but it was very pleasant talking with her.
We had a 10 year old child with us and Marie Claire discounted the charge for her breakfast. So our child had a free breakfast. So you can say Marie-Claire knows hospitality very well and can make you feel welcomed. The hotel was clean. The bed sheets and towels were all very clean. There was a good working refrigerator, kettle, TV and other items in the room. The shower worked fine. The breakfast was also to a good standard and justified for the price. Would I consider going to this Hotel again? Yes, I would. :-)
The bed mattress seem to be getting old as sometimes you could feel the springs in them. The mattress was not the worst I have experienced but they were not the best either. However, one should know this is not a 3, 4 or 5 star hotel and the price justifies small issues.

The couple who run the hotel were very welcoming. A good stopover for cyclists looking for budget accommodation. They serve couscous in the evening. Generous portions. They serve an excellent hearty breakfast too. Good value for money.
