About this house rental
Impressive 14th century castle rising on a tuff rock above two green valleys, 3 km from Celleno. Wonderful view over the valleys and woods. Quiet and secluded location. Inside the property, about 50 m from the entrance of the castle, a large lawn with swimming pool (112m², open from 15.05-30.09) for guests with outdoor shower, sunbeds and umbrellas. Guests also have the following facilities at their disposal: Multipurpose field for soccer and tennis, volleyball court, walking paths, table soccer, table tennis, bowling alley, billiards, sauna, children's playground and outdoor dance floor with CD player. Parking lot. Access via a gravel road about 900 m long, unpaved, leading through a forest and not passable by large buses. The chateau is offered exclusively for a group of 24 people: it offers a common living area consisting of 3 living rooms (one with satellite TV, the second with a large fireplace and the third with dining tables for meals) and 12 simply but fully furnished bedrooms (4 of them with double bed and 8 with two single beds each), each with bathroom with shower (simple floor shower). Each room also has its own sink. Shared washing machine and dishwasher. 3 baby cribs available (payment on site). Possibility of 16 additional sleeping places in rooms also located in the castle, on the first floor (at the level of the garden - on request and to be paid directly on site), up to a maximum occupancy of 42 people in total, distributed in a total of 17 rooms. Possibility of domestic help and cooks for lunch (local home cooking - price to be agreed directly with the cooks). Distances: about 900 m a small grocery store with coffee bar and telephone. Stores of all kinds in Celleno (3 km) and Bagnoregio and Civita di Bagnoregio, also called 'the dying town' (7 km). 15 km away Lake Bolsena (free and equipped beaches), 20 km Viterbo (the city of the popes), 29 km Orvieto (with its famous cathedral), 90 km Rome, 150 km Florence. Access to the castle via a long stone and wooden bridge (formerly a drawbridge) that leads to a small paved courtyard. Here there is a small borgo with two small twin houses, each with two double rooms with shower bath (one on the first floor and one on the 1st floor), between which there is a small church. Next to one of the houses there is also an equipped covered area with tables for outdoor meals and antique barbecue. From the small square you can reach a simple but fully equipped communal kitchen, lounges (120m²) and a communal toilet, as well as the rooms on the first, second and third floors (the latter is partly a mansard floor and has low access corridors to the rooms) and, via a lighted staircase, caves dug in tufa, gallery passages and a cellar. Consumption costs are payable on site.

I booked Rocchette Castle for an 8-day reunion of 11 families. Despite what both the VRBO site and Reps stated repeatedly about the property, Novasol, a Danish firm, is NOT the Host or Property Manager. "Novasol is a booking agency that manages the rental of the house," they wrote. VRBO is a subcontractor. For details Luigi, the owner, has all the answers. Reached directly, Novasol put me in touch with him. Rocchette isn’t a military castle, it is a fortified villa, 600 years old. The "cool factor" is off the charts. The area is very (very) quiet, a perfect place to decompress. Orvieto, Civita di Bagnoregio, Todi, Viterbo and Celleno are convenient and well worth seeing, especially the first three.Every room has a shower. Most were accessible via conventional stairs, but a few used fairly tight spiral stairs. Families with children avoided those. The rooms were clean, comfortable, uncluttered and functional. Rustic utility: yes, luxury: no. Common spaces including the dining and pool/reading rooms were nicely equipped and attractive. The kitchen was large and suitable for preparing big meals (massive stove). Cookware was abundant but some had seen better days. There is a large wood/charcoal grill, a pool and a soccer field. The access road is easy for any car. The courtyard was really great for little kids, some of whom had mini-bikes, and they had a fine time protected by the walls. Every guest was blown away by this amazing facility; we highly recommend it.
