Modern take on the hostel

The place was modern, clean, comfortable. The kitchen was spacious and all stainless steel (similar to a restaurant). Large seating area inside, as well as a big terrace with grill/braai. Shared bathroom/shower were very good (especially for a hostel). Just a 2 minute walk to Gearing's Point.

The only negative would be ventilation. During the day, the inside of the hostel would get quite warm, and it would stay warm, even though the temperature had cooled down outside.

Very clean and the facility is like new. Checkin was great (Ms. van Straaten) and the people are efficient and friendly. Bathrooms are very clean and located very close to the rooms. Rooms are not small.

A Facility detail…. The high Temperature was 83 degrees, and the rooms felt it. The fan helped a little. At 9pm, it was 73 degrees and the rooms were still a bit warm. I tried opening the door to the hallway but it made it warmer. We moved the twin beds to the center of the room under the fan….this definitely helped but still not cool. If this was my place, I would be looking to see if an increase in air flow could be achieved (maybe by using fans in the hallways, keeping the two double doors open, bigger windows, etc.). I am sure a better ceiling fan and/or portable floor fan would help. Maybe wall mounted fans in front of the small window openings, too. A housekeeping detail… One last Odd Thing…At 8:25am, my friend leaves to take a shower. At 8:28am, a female housekeeper, in an all black uniform, unlocks door with a key and enters my room, without knocking….Sees me in room and immediately closes door and walks quickly down hallway to bath area. Check out was 11am so there was no reason for this to happen. To help housekeepers, Maybe add some do not disturb door hanger signage.

Cleanliness, access and location were excellent. The place was quiet - no children is a real bonus. Although not used, the kitchen was fully equipped: I had access to a large water jug for next to my bed, there were also cafetières available for coffee-making if needed. The books in the communal living area were a nice treat - I finished a book when I wasn't out and about. On-street parking was easy to find and free.

NO FAULT of the property, but there was one particular room that could have been a bit more considerate when closing their room doors, which they did often. Perhaps a little well-placed consideration sign could be installed.

Modern and clean hostel right in town

One of the nicest hostels I ever stayed at. Never seen shared bathrooms that are this modern and clean in a hostel. Also the terrace overlooking Hermanus is big plus. Highly recommend!

Nice place to stay in Hermanus. Massive rooms with fridge, kettle, plates etc plus a bigger communal kitchen that was well stocked. Nice and comfortable stay. Would stay again.

Excellent value for money, would definitely stay again!

Location was perfect for our needs, very close to the shops, breakfast cafés and sea front, with plenty of street parking close by. I was expecting fairly basic accommodation given that we were staying in a hostel with shared bathrooms, but what we got exceeded my expectations - the rooms were spacious and clean, with a fridge and coffee/tea making facilities, and the bathrooms (separate areas for showers and toilets) were very modern and clean. There was also a nice lounge area for relaxing and a nice balcony/terrace for enjoying a drink in the fresh air and sunshine. Can only recommend for anyone looking for somewhere to sleep that is great value for money.

Different, creative, not your average “back packers”, worth it

Situated in the heart of Hermanus, and close to everything you want to experience in the town. Fancier than I thought and a great place to hang out with friends.

The street parking stressed me out a little bit and just had to make sure nothing was left or visible in the car… but I was able to park directly in front of the hostel.

The rooms and facilities are big, bright and well equipped. Perfect location. Both inside and outside common area. Located in a beautiful art street, so super charming.

Everything is perfect. Of course there was a power cut ( not their fault ) but it made it a little inconvenient as no light or charge for some hours.

Above average hostel experience

I really don't have much experience with hostels. They are usually extremely overcrowded and noisy so I avoid them. But this is not really a hostel. This is a hotel with shared bathrooms, and you can alsop rent a private bathroom for an extra fee. For the steal price you get a large room with two comfortable beds, fridge, cutlery, table and a hanging closet which is way more than I expected from a hostel. Parking is right outside the gate on the one-way street up from the gearing point.

There is no air conditioning in the rooms, only a ceiling fan, the air is ventilated through small windows on top of the walls, and the smoke and noise from the restaurant air vents situated right outside the window enters the room. For someone it might not be a big deal.

Will never get use to communal facilities but the experience was pleasant nonetheless based on the cleanliness overall.

The location incredible and hospitality of all the staff was great. The rooms were spotless and the whole experience far beyond our expectations. The breakfast was adequate - and if you want a full on breakfast - go to a hotel or bed and breakfast. The value for money was excellent.
