Desa Eko

A lot of thought and concept has gone into this place and especially the restaurant is a really cool place that looks lovely and serves great food.

Given its located in Bali, the level of accommodation its competing against at that price range is huge! I really liked it but I felt like it charges too much for what it offers. We stayed in one of the tents and its basically a glamping experience but charged at a premium rate that struggles to compare with the level and price offered by other accommodations in Bali. If the prices were lower I think I would have enjoyed it more and been less picky with my expectations. Having said that, the Hotel is in the middle of a green slope, super cozy and magical, you can walk down to a river and waterfall and the restaurant is super cool as well!

I had the best sleep here of anywhere in Bali, as it was so peaceful. The view from the restaurant is beautiful, and we really enjoyed the waterfall hike accessible directly from the hotel

The limited available of rooms with an ensuite bathroom meant we had to share and one guest was a little impatient while we were using the toilet (only one time, despite the hotel being full during our stay)

As amazing as it looks. The bathroom with the large panoramic windows was a real treat. Some of the smaller tents looked charming too. If you’re going to hike through the waterfalls this is the place to stay.

Personally I’d like to see more Balinese or Indonesian food on the menu.

The surroundings and views are beautiful, and the staff were very friendly and attentive. It was my birthday during our stay and they made a real effort to make it feel special, which I really appreciated.

Unfortunately, Desa Eko did not live up to our expectations. The views and surroundings are beautiful, but ultimately it is a fairly basic camping/glamping experience at a very premium price. The tents are placed quite close together, so it doesn’t give the sense of privacy, freedom and being immersed in nature that the photos and storytelling suggest. Most accommodations don’t have a private bathroom, the shared bathrooms are very basic, and during our stay the showers were cold. The restaurant, which also functions as the reception, is simple in both setting and concept. The food was okay, but very average — you can eat much better at many places in Bali. Given how special the overall experience is presented, we expected the food and restaurant to be part of that experience too. The owners have clearly done an excellent job with the concept, storytelling and marketing. It looks and sounds like a very special place online, which is why we were willing to pay the high price. Unfortunately, the actual experience didn’t match those expectations. At a more modest price point I would probably rate Desa Eko very differently, but for what they charge, I expected much more comfort, privacy and overall quality.
