Gite Les Hortalis

Loved the location. A beautiful and extremely picturesque village. We were awed by its beauty. Swimming pool a very decent size. Apartment was very spacious. Plenty of seating areas and plenty of cooking amenities. Water left in fridge on arrival. Hosts very thorough showing us around on arrival and friendly hosts. 15 min drive from local super markets which isnt too bad. Plenty of towels provided. Place was peaceful and tranquil. The old style vibe inside was homely feel. Overall enjoyed stay although there were some disappointments.

The cleanliness of the place. It wasn't all bad. Just not to my usual standards. Had to purchase extra cleaning products to give a good clean at beginning of our stay which I would have rather avoided. Very strong old stench from cupboards and old wood. For eg had to wash all cutlery again before use because had a strong odour of the old cupboard smells. Hosts generally gave us plenty of privacy but was a little uncomfortable with the male host in his swim trunks swimming in the pool in the evenings with the children around. Personal opinion. Others may not mind this. Few things need upgrading.. washing machiene for e.g was very old and didn't leave clothes smelling fresh after use. Very small drum so had to put extra loads on to usual. Swimming pool was beautiful. Perfect sizing. But the bugs were relentless. Filtration system very poor and when we took up filter captures there were no baskets which would explain why bugs were not getting captured in filters and coming back into the pool. Lack of air conditioning was an issue. I think that would apply only in extremely hot weather. But 2 portable fans in 37/38 degree heat in a very large apartment wasnt anywhere near acceptable. Overall can be a very lovely place to stay, just needs a few upgrades and cleanliness needs improving.

Beautiful location and great facilities

I liked everything

Amazing location, the house is much bigger than you expect and is spread over four floors. It’s really comfortable and quiet and full of history. The owners live next door and are really lovely people who want you to enjoy your stay. They even invited us to the local Montjoi lamb bbq where we met other locals and ate a brilliant meal. The swimming pool and garden are so peaceful and quiet - if you like to relax away from traffic and with the noise of birdsong, sheep and church bells this is the place to come. The pool is seasonal and had only opened for us arriving - it’s unheated but the sun soon warmed it up to a fantastic 28 degrees. We went in for a dip every day. stayed eight days and left feeling so relaxed. Totally recommend this gite. You almost feel the history everywhere
