Breakfast was very good, with a good choice of hot and cold food. It is an old house with a lot of history, a bit tired but the upkeep of a place like this must be costly. The house was warm and the room was large and comfortable, even had an electric blanket on the bed. The staff were friendly and helpful and very welcoming. Excellent value for money, would definitely stay again
Getting across the A1 to continue journey north can be hair raising, so we turned left out of car park and followed road round and picked up A1 a bit further down. Added about 10 minutes to journey so no problem.

Very friendly staff and a good breakfast. Very clean.
Even with two electric heaters it was a little chilly in the cottage.

The bed was comfy and the bedding was clean. There was no extra charge for the dog.
It was very cold - my stay was 13th/14th December! A lot of the cottage was dirty. Obvious surfaces were clean but corners were full of dust. Inside cupboards was very dirty and a door was hanging off. The bathroom sink had a large crack in it. The sealant around the bath and floor had failed/was moldy/was peeling off. There was no fuel for the woodburner. The boiler for hot water and central heating was not turned on. I had been left with a small oil filled radiator downstairs and a hot air blower in the bedroom. When I got the boiler to work in the evening it had stopped working by the morning so no hot water to have a wash or shower. A part-used and out of date bottle of milk was in the fridge. The tv remote control would only change channels with the 'down' button on arrival and wouldn't work at all in the morning. The towels were clean but damp.

Breakfast was delicious and there was plenty of choices even if you didn't want a cooked breakfast.
A problem was that there was no hot water, when we mentioned this the proprietor he explained and we were offered another room to use hot water.
It would be best mentioned that if you wanted something to eat later that it would be quite a drive into Stamford then nearest town.

Not well soundproofed. Lots of noise from road and crying baby in next room

I was visiting the BMFA site at Buckminster for a Glider tow event and this place is a great alternative to caravan or camping. Breakfast was great and I was given one of the two bedroom cottages to stay in.
Will definitely stay here again if I am in the area!
I arrived at night and the door bell didnt appear to work so had to phone the owner who soon had me sorted!

The location of this property is ideally suited to travellers along the A1, as it is right on the roadside.
The staff were very friendly and helpful and called to ensure everything was in order. Nothing was too much trouble.
The breakfast was excellent value and delicious in a beautiful room as part of original house
The bed was very uncomfortable because the mattress was too soft and the cottage where we stayed was a little tired, although the bath was excellent and there was plentiful hot water.
Our cottage was in need of some tlc and updating but charming all the same.

Good breakfast, comfy bed
Room a bit noisy due to facing A1

Breakfast was good and I wasn’t charged for it or a drink that was offered to me on my arrival. The proprietor was very friendly and asked what time I wanted breakfast and it was ready when I arrived at the dining room which had a completely different feel to the rooms that I was staying in. Tables were set for a further 12 diners, but no one else had breakfast while I was there. It was 8:30am
I was disappointed with the accommodation. There was a musty smell in the rooms. It was described as a flat and consisted of a living room/kitchen, shower and separate bedroom. It was clean, but the furnishings were tired and dated. There was no wash hand basin in the shower room, which meant that I had to wash my hands and brush my teeth in the kitchen sink. Because of the smell I had to have the window open all night which meant that I could hear the traffic on the nearby A1.

Breakfast was very good, room was enormous and very clean. Furniture eccentric but comfortable, whole place random, and quirky, very friendly staff. Old coaching inn, next to A!
The bedroom windows were nailed shut and the fan was missing a button to turn it on!

Bedroom was on front of A1 so there was traffic noise.

More than satisfactory, within limitations of being an old building 10 metres back from the A1. Super-convenient location, and much nicer than e.g. Travelodge. Extremely good value, in fact I did think suspiciously good, but it seems absolutely nothing dodgy about it, simply the host is a good sort who thrives on looking after her guests. Environment is quiet apart from the main road, and the windows face onto fields rather than the road. Interior including my room is spacious, quaintly and extensively decorated, in fact a bit dowdy, but perfectly clean.
Nothing wrong with it that affected me.
(An old building right by the A1 probably isn't for very light sleepers, double-glazing notwithstanding. But with the windows shut I wasn't bothered and slept very well, unlike at Travelodges with vehicles and people coming and going. Traffic at A1 speed comes in waves & whooshes of white noise, nothing persistent or sudden!)

Handy just off A1, but with this a lot of road noise. A really good cooked breakfast (probably hottest one I’ve ever had )
Toad noise, but expected it as next to A1. Room was dated & not exactly clean

Breakfast was excellent though slightly let down by the sausage quality! Hosts were very friendly and helpful. For the price, have to say good value.
No WiFi though, in fairness, it did say that in the listing but I missed it. Listing photos must have been taken decades ago- place showing its age. Location somewhat out of the way.

Traffic noise but that was expected as it’s right next to the A road.

Self contained lodge with its own bathroom and kitchen area alike, huge bedroom and a garden to relax. Parking and a very few meters from the A1 .
Need a little bit of sparkling cleaning, in general would recommend to anyone who is looking for privacy and a quiet place to stay .

Breakfast was excellent. The lady who runs the place was lovely.
The cottage my friend and I were in was extremely tired. Only one hand towel and one bath towel between us! I’m sure we could have asked for more but after a long day travelling we couldn’t be bothered. Traffic noise all night was very bad

Very convenient being right on the A1 but despite this the accommodation was quiet. Lovely self-catering cottage in the grounds with two double bedrooms. Very clean and well decorated. Very friendly, helpful owner and staff. Beautiful grounds. Excellent breakfast. Pet friendly.
It didn't bother me but either the TV didn't work or I could not work out how to make it work.

The buildings history. The owner was fabulous, telling us all the stories about the Black Bull. The breakfast was great.
We chose it because we wanted to visit the surrounding towns, but there was alot of traffic noise. No problem if you stick in some ear plugs!
