We had a fabulous week staying at Joe House. The cottage is very comfortable and well equipped. We were able to walk straight from the door and did several of the local walks. We were lucky to stay during lambing season and loved seeing the baby lambs. Information on how the cottage was renovated by the present owners was really interesting and informative.

Lovely little cottage nestled in the quiet Gunnerside hills. Walks from the door especially Gunnerside Gill very picturesque.
Cottage was warm and welcoming, log burner was nice to come back to after a hard days walking.
Plenty of space, large kitchen, everything we needed and large bedrooms and bathroom (nice to be able to have a bath, not just a shower!)
All you can hear at night is the Owl's Hooting and hardly any if at all light pollution.
A great little find when you need to get away from it all!

Gunnerside would not be our choice of location next time. Beautiful but only one pub and need to be sure you have all you because it’s a drive for supplies.

Lovely cottage, for a couple or family up to 5. Big kitchen and relatively small living room. Neighbours are farmers: tractor noises and barking dog now and then. Little terrace outside. The Dales all around you.

House was just as described. Well equipped kitchen, comfortable beds. We really enjoyed watching the sheep from the farm next door. Great walks right down our own lane. Day trips to Richmond and Windemere in the Lake District. Owner very easy to work with and great communication and checkin process was very easy. Loved our time here.

We don't tend to return to the same place, but we feel we will have to make an exception here :) Sarah has been the most welcoming and helpful host from the moment we booked. Myself, my husband and our toddler felt so at home here and are really sad to be leaving - we stayed 6 nights but could definately have stayed longer - Yorkshire Dales has so much beauty to offer and being able to come home to Joe House at the end of each day made it extra special! Thank you for everything Sarah, we had such a blissful autumnal break.

Lovely comfortable beds, with a fine collection of books and DVDs, all the facilities you need in the kitchen too.
Hope you don't mind a couple of negative comments, while we had great weather the exhaust from the boiler faces out onto seating area of the patio, would be good to pipe it up higher, also if the patio was leveled out a bit, this would help with the outside seating.
Had a great stay thank you.

The Beautiful Dales
Joe House is in the heart of the beautiful Yorkshire Dales. If you like to hike, visit quaint villages, enjoy local pubs or tearooms, and experience the country for a few days or more, this is the place for you! The house has everything you need, and the sheep, pheasants, birds, and rabbits right outside your windows are fun to watch and hear. Just know that driving in The Dales can be an adventure, and bring your slippers for the slate floor and rustic stairs in the house.

Hidden gem, great place for getting away from it all
We stayed with friends for a weekend away and found a beautiful property in a stunning area with lovely walks from the doorsteps and everything in the cottage you could possibly want including a cosy fire to sit around in the evening. This was a comfortable old farm workers cottage. A lot of the original features have been preserved. We had everything we needed for a great stay in the quiet of the Dale's.

Pretty cottage in the most spectacular setting
Myself and my family have just returned from an amazing few days at Joe House. The cottage is full of character and has everything needed for a comfortable and enjoyable stay.
Our children loved the indoor and outdoor toys and we all enjoyed sitting in the pretty garden enjoying the peace and serenity of the surrounding countryside.
Our host was extremely helpful, and went out of her way to assist us.
We can’t wait to return for longer next year :)

Location, location, location!!
What a wonderful cottage set in the hills over Gunnerside.
Cosy, comfy bed and a bath for after all the long hikes!
The birds and pheasant visited every day and lots and lots of baby lambs!!!
From communication at the start to arriving all went smoothly.
Lots of walking maps and info In the cottage and we used a couple of these for some fantastic hikes.
Parkin cake was a lovely touch and the fire was lovely In the chillier evenings. Although during the day was pretty much shorts and t shirts . Stunning weather!
If you get the chance go to Gordale scar and scramble up the waterfall! Def my highlight!
Needs a little TLC but also it's been locked up for a while with covid. We were not disappointed with anything.
Plenty of pots and pans and crockery.
Driveway down to house is little tricky so just take it easy.
Would love to visit again...area is amazing and house is great to come home too after a long day!!

Really amazing property in a stunning location, host was extremely helpful and got back to us very quickly when we had a few questions whilst staying at the cottage

Very impressed and had a lovely stay. Sarah is very friendly and responds to communications swiftly to make check in easy. The cottage is stunning, a listed building (very interesting - read the history in the cottage pack) that has been sympathetically modernised to provide traditional features but also very cosy heating, comfy beds, lovely window seat, excellent kitchen. Setting could not be better - in the steep sided Swaledale valley with plenty of walks from the doorstep. Sitting outside in the morning with breakfast (yes in September!) listening to the birdlife and looking down the valley was a treat.Wifi and other tech excellent and there is everything you need; books, games, plenty of cutlery, pots, pans, spares for most things etc. Hot water and bathroom all fine - this cottage probably has the best 'view from the loo' in England! Ditto the view from the ample (3 car) parking. You may be greeted by a duck, he is very friendly and persistent! Anyway - perfect cottage, we will be back - Mark, Helen and Lucie - York.

Daleside delight!
Joe House is a proper country cottage, cosy and traditional but with very good bathroom and kitchen fittings and equipment. Its location is both beautifully remote and accessible to idyllic walks and scenery. We had a wonderful week.

Walking my ancestors footsteps.
Joe House was a perfect place to stay for my genealogy research. It's like going back in time 100 years. Be sure to get careful instructions and definitely arrive before dark. Be prepared for a very narrow road which you do get used to in time. VERY QUIET! Kitchen has all hardware you need.

Lovely stay at Joe's House
Lovely cottage - beautiful location and views. Cottage equipped with everything we needed for our stay. Beds were comfy and shower hot & powerful.
It was chilly when we arrived but the cottage was quickly heated by the fire.
Deep steps up to first floor might be difficult for anyone with a mobility problem.
Parkin cake was a nice welcome.
There was lots of information in the cottage which was very helpful and clearly presented.
I would definitely go back!!
