The Corner House Hostel

The hostel feels cozy. The place is clean, the beds are comfortable, and after long days exploring Salento, falling onto that mattress felt like being embraced by a cloud. But let's talk about the real reason this hostel deserves its stellar score: Juan. Juan is not a receptionist. Juan is a cosmic event. A superhuman from another galaxy disguised as a Colombian hostel worker. The most empathetic, kind, attentive and genuinely caring receptionist I have met in Colombia. He remembers people, checks how you're doing, helps without hesitation, and somehow makes everyone feel at home. I actually extended my stay because of Juan. And honestly I would come back to Salento just to stay here and see him again. If every hostel had a Juan, world peace would probably be achievable.

The kitchen equipment is... on life support. The frying pans and pots are in a state of advanced decomposition. They look like they haven't been replaced in a hundred years and cooking with them is almost impossible. There is only one with a handle, so you need to use the cleaning rag carefully. It is synthetic so it also gets sticky. There is salt, but not oil of any kind. It's surprising because this is such an easy problem to fix. Give me the budget and I would have gone to buy new ones in an afternoon lol. So, if cooking is important to you, be aware that there are other hostels in Salento with much better-equipped kitchens 1000% sure. Also, the hostel is located on the main street. The location is very convenient, but especially on weekends, it can get quite noisy.

Great location on the main strip, facilities were well looked after and clean, staff were super friendly, and its a really easy place to meet other travellers

Kitchen is small so it can get a little overcrowded and challenging around meal times, and being next to the main street it can be pretty noisy after hours

The hostel was in a great location, right on calle real. There is a kitchen and curtains on the beds. Small common area with a bar type area for working.

The showers had nothing to hang or set your things on while inside. Beds are extremely hard. There is a lot of street noise until very late at night on the weekends so if you are a light sleeper you may want to stay in a different location. The outlet in my bed was half torn out of the wall so the plugs didn't stay put.

I did not have breakfast at the location. I didn't think breakfast was served there.

The spaces were very cramped. Additionally, the showers were very small as well. It was difficult to position oneself in the shower. Lastly, there was a LOT of noise coming from outside. This did not combine well with the hard beds: a good sleep was nearly impossible.
