Proper pub stay. So nice after a day sightseeing to just go downstairs for a drink and dinner. Good quality pub food. Breakfast included was a bonus too.

Check in time advertised as 3 pm. Front door was still locked at that time, and we were put off until about 4 pm.
Staff were asked about parking at the front of the hotel and were non-committal, referring us to the council signs restricting parking. Later on after check in they revealed that free parking was available on the premises. Their reason for not mentioning this before is a mystery.

The room was very nicely decorated and comfortable, except low beams. Breakfast was nicely cooked. Couple who run it were charming and helpful. It was quite convenient for the Hay Festival.
The room wasn't automatically serviced every day and this was not made clear up front. For what were paying, I think it should be daily serviced. When we asked, it was. One of the doors to the shower was off its rail and should have been checked and repaired before we arrived.

Location and outside seating areas. Lovely bar area. Lovely manageress.
Room was a little scruffy. Cobwebs everywhere. Took ages to get served at the bar but that could be to do with new staff this week. Some parts of the pub very dated. A bit dark.

the room was quite nice, if not a little cold as it was January
An awful microwaved breakfast is not acceptable for £160 a night. It must be really, really good and there is plenty of local produce that could be used. We did not eat breakfast on the second morning as it just wasn't edible. There were lots of flies, dead and alive, in the dining room. Generally, this whole place needs a massive clean. These are rooms above a pub - this is not a hotel in any shape, manner or form. If we have paid £80 a night then fair enough but not at £160 out of season. Service is completely non-existent.

Very central to where I wanted to be - very quiet - shower good
Dust under the bed - yoghurt provided - no spoon - had to say I was vegetarian about 4 times to different members of staff - communication between them poor - I called at the beginning of the week to say I would be arriving late but again I had 3 messages wondering where I was - when I went down for breakfast greeted with you’ve got a customer - breakfast was poor quality very basic for the price - no one offered to help me bring down my bags - 3 people watched me make 2 trips

Friendly staff. Good meal and quick service. Comfortable beds.
Room decor was tired and not conveniently arranged to store baggage. Bathroom mirror was missing and the shower fitting not strongly attached to the wall.

Excellent location
Very expensive but very basic place
Lots of building materials lying around outside that looked like they had been there a while and made the hotel look uncared for

Not good value. Room was clean but very tired, whole hotel is in need of renovation. Reception area chaotic!
Room was clean and breakfast was good. highlight of the stay.

Sheila and Katie were welcoming and friendly from the time when I arrived. I had a very good meal on the Friday night in the Inn (having pre-booked this), and good breakfasts. My room was comfortable and well-furnished, and very quiet despite being in a central location in Hay. I slept well and enjoyed exploring Hay, which is a very attractive town and a book-lovers' paradise.
It was all fine.

Warm welcome, very friendly, lovely breakfast, amazing top floor room, beautiful village.
Parking could be an issue if you don't get in their private carpark.

Location is great, right next to the great Tapas restaurant and the view from the windows was also great. Loved two little four legged rascals patrolling the place too :)
I opted for a double bed room and was given a room with two single beds and we were told there was no other rooms available, so had to join the beds and hope we won't fall into the gap at night. There were cobwebs on all the windows, the room and the bathroom were clean enough but surely it doesn't take long to inspect the cleaning and actually remove the cobwebs! Vegan breakfast consisted of beans, toast and tomatoes. Nothing else, even though the hotel was notified about my dietary requirements in advance. Price for something so basic was in my opinion way too much.

We found the Kilverts easily. They serve good cold cider.
Poor welcome. We were told before our stay that there was secure bicycle storage but this was not the case and we were told to find a place in the garden for our bikes. The room was disappointing, dirty under the bed, broken tiles in the bathroom, shower leaking, bed type made the TV difficult to see, paper leaflets stuck over window to stop lighting coming through which it did not. Grubby dinning room, terrible breakfast, poached eggs rock hard swimming in water. We ordered poached eggs on toast but told we had to make our own toast from a pile of bread that everyone else was handling!
Dirty check in area. When I complained all I got was "thanks for your feedback" I was told that the breakfast was complimentary/free!!! The very large outside area is a disgusting mess of unfinished and/or abandoned building work.

The sleep was comfortable. The location in town is good
The room was very dirty, old dust piled up everywhere, crumbs, old contact lenses etc. The toilet was not clean when we got there. Around the hotel there are things left everywhere - broken pots, chairs, random objects, everything feels like a mess. The parking situation was terrible because there were cars belonging to staff members parked inbetween parking spots, we had to sqeeze in between a trailer and another car in a tiny space. Even though we alerted the staff to the situation, nothing changed the next day, so coming out of there was an absolute nightmare.

Location and friendliness of the staff. Breakfast was nice too
Room was dirty with awful lighting. The door was difficult to lock and unlock. The staff were brilliant but run off their feet. The common areas and back garden looked tired and messy. Definitely not value for money.

location and the front patio. Parking was great. also the breakfast room looked newly refurbished and was very nice.
beds, toilet didn’t flush consistently. Despite it being an old building with character there was a definite need for improvement throughout. The back patio was in disarray.
