Good stay friendly staff however the heating was not working and it was freezing. WiFi was also not that great. Breakfast was good

The location and from outside this hotel looks very impressive. The room we were allocated was large with lovely furnishings a lovely comfortable bed. Sofa and arm chairs . However there was dead flies in the all the glass light shades , paint peeling from the windows.,big damp patch above the chimney breast.and cobwebs around the mirror and on the ceiling .The drinks at the bar are very expensive and are never the same price . The food was .0k and breakfast had limited cereals but a good variety for the English breakfast. The grounds need a gardener and a good tidy up as there is a broken marquee frame and rubbish close to the Abbey. On leaving we were told we would have to pay for our room as they did not have record of our booking from Agoda. . We would have to pay a much higher rate . From reading previous reviews about this hotel doing this I produced an email the hotel had sent after I booked the room 4 months previous and had replied to a question I had asked. Also luckily my credit card statement . The receptionist said OK and then put her head down . We were not asked if we had a nice stay or any pleasantries.
