The Orwell Hotel

My friends and I had an overall pleasant stay at your place over the weekend. *Extra thanks!* Check-in was easy and the two staff who helped with our early deposit of luggage and check-in were very helpful. I want to especially give thanks to Adif (I did not manage to get the spelling of his name, sorry!) who helped to source an additional duvet as one of the single beds was scaringly springy (I hope an extra duvet can be layered before the bedsheet from now on) - it was late when I called the reception to request for an extra duvet to line the bed and Adif shared that the housekeeping team has left so he needed extra time to find one for me. While it took a while, I really appreciate his help! *Wished it was more pleasant* It was a pity that the check-out was less pleasant than expected. The booking confirmation email below stated that we needed to check out before 11:00. My friends and I left to get some morning snacks to have in the room before our check-in, and came back at about 10:15. We were told by a male staff manning the Reception that we have to check out by 10:00 else we would have to pay a fee (£10 per hour). I explained that the booking confirmation email reflected our check-out time as 11:00 but he was firm and appeared unempathetic to our side of the story. We then went up to pack up and leave right away. We understand that he was trying to do his job, it just felt like a shame that our stay ended on that note.

This was the room that i also had last year. Although very spacious, it wasn't the room that i requested on booking. The picture on the booking was far different to the room recieved. On questioning this i was told that i had to phone before arrival and request the room separately to what was initially booked. This is false advertisement in my opinion as nothing was stated to me at the time of booking so i wouldn't have known. As i stated the room was very spacious but the mattress on the large bed is in desperate need of change. Anybody else to who stays in this room, beware of the bed. Breakfast was included with the price with a complimentary coffee from the machine if required. A lot of choice for your breakfast but the seating availability is poor if you eat at the same time as other guests. Other seating is available in the bar if need be. Parking is available free if you are staying on site. Just feed in your car registration in at reception on arrival. Plenty of seating room outside if you choose to eat and drink. The hotel is very clean and the staff were very accomodating. Just a few tweaks imo but well worth the price.

When I booked on line the check out time was 11am. Also when I signed the arrival form it said 11am. The receptionist staff member said it was 10am. I told him about the online booking and showed him my email he just said oh it hasn't been updated yet. I said so I'll check out at 11am. We then had a call at 10.20. Was told politely that the check out time was 10am I had to explain it all again. Not good. We had free breakfast also I phoned reception and asked if it could be sent to our room. He said I needed to book it the night before but that he would ask the kitchen at ring me back. This did not happen. While we waited for the call back the from reception the only call we got was to tell us about the check out time. We are fuming. Now we missed out on our breakfast. The communication in this hotel is very bad as there is also no welcome leaflet to let you know any information ie WI FI.
