Big Paul Hostel

I had a great stay here with my friend. The room was cold and comfortable, the WiFi was strong, and the place was quiet during our stay. One thing we loved was that you can easily walk to the Sunset Lounge for sunset viewing, so there’s no need to go all the way to Vanilla Beach.

Staffs are very helpful and kind. The hostel is located in good location and well maintained. Overall, if you are looking for a budget friendly hostel go for it

Nice affordable hostel located in Corong Corong. Near the beach. Free breakfast, unli coffee; - unli cocktails by 7PM to 11PM - free drinking water; - nicest & polite staffs.

We stayed at this property for 3 nights, but only due to the fact there was little else within our price range in El Nido, as we booked last minute in high season. We wanted to leave immidiatly on check in. The highlight of the place was that you could get a replacement towel whenever you wanted one (we really had to think to have anything postitive at all). The common area is small and uninviting, and often full of topless men which would not be the most friendly to a female solo traveller. I saw rats at the back of this area at one point. The bathrooms were grim, and we haven’t got particularly high standards! It didn’t appear any of the bathrooms had ever been deep cleaned, the shower pressure was pathetic, there was regularly no hot water. At any given point half of the bathrooms / shower cubicles would be out of order or unusable. The general grime of the place was very unpleasant to say the least! The lack of cleanliness extended into the rooms, which were dark and very cramped. There was a total lack of privacy in the dorms, with thin see-through curtains, which did not even wrap around the bed space. No storage for any belongings meant the floor was cluttered and there was no space to move at all in the room. The aircon was very loud, and did not turn off all day (set cold enough I was sleeping in a jumper, uncomfortably). The room was full of mosquitos, despite bug spray we both ended up with lots of bites, I’m sure this was not helped by the room apparently never being cleaned other than the bedsheets changed. Despite no social atmosphere at the hostel, loud music blared all day and until 11pm (not ideal if you fancy an early night before the boat tours). We had read bad reviews, and thought maybe other people were just a little fussy, but it really is that bad, do yourself a favour and don’t stay here, at least until they’ve sorted the vast list of maintenance!
