Unforgetable stay in the mountains

Absolutely incredible stay, our host was so friendly, the food was amazing and we ate surrounded by mountains - she even catered vegan for us. The room and bed was the best we’ve had during our entire Europe trip and at such at great price. Wifi was excellent. We actually ended up wanting to stay longer but it was booked out, so get in early!

Be aware that the property is 6km away from the start of the valbona to theth trek and the showers aren’t the best in terms of water flow!

The room was lovely! We stayed in the upstairs room and it was really clean and tidy. It was exactly what was advertised! The lovely host was so lovely and made us the most delicious dinner for so cheap. We practically rolled back to our room because we were so full! The included breakfast was also fantastic. We really really enjoyed our stay here and will definitely be back next time we are in valbone!!

The property is a long way from the theth to valbone hike, but this is our own fault as we didn’t check this before we booked. Don’t let that stop you from staying though! It’s such a lovely accomodation!!

The place of dreams - scenery, food and comfort

This is the most beautiful place I have stayed. The views were unreal and it's tucked slightly back from the road. Such a quiet and serene spot within Valbone valley. Ahmetaj was so lovely and her food was delicious. The room was really nice and the comfiest bed we have had in Albania yet! It was a great quiet spot, away from the crowds that some of the accommodation in Valbone has. The owner helped us organise a taxi to the start of the trail and made us a delicious and very affordable packed lunch to take with us. Definitely stay here!

Wonderful stay !

Our stay at Butjina Ahmetaj was wonderful . The views from the property are breathtaking , and Drita was so lovely . We stayed in the upper floor of the property - it was very clean , had wifi, and had a super comfy bed . The room had a gorgeous view also. Drita cooked a wonderful dinner and breakfast for us , which we enjoyed outside . We stayed here prior to doing the valbone to theth hike for one night and we walked to the trailhead from here . It is honestly beautiful - surrounded by fields , mountains and sounds of nature ! Couldn’t recommend more !

Drita was warm and welcoming! She made us feel right at home with her hospitality and comfortable guesthouse. Homecooked food enjoyed in the garden with mountain views from the shade of an olive tree. We could not have asked for more

• Extremely friendly host. Limited English but we communicated with hand signals and google translate • Immaculately clean room - not a speck of dirt or dust anywhere • Catered to us for dinner (both veggie) and breakfast • Beautiful views • Although booking.com says no WiFi, it does have WiFi albeit limited (enough to WhatsApp essentially)

• It’s quite far from the end of the Theth - Valbona hike. I think it would be about an hours walk down the tarmac road (at least) although we managed to hitch a ride which was great • Nearest restaurant is about 25 min walk away

Gorgeous scenery, friendly host, good price

Really friendly and helpful host who went out of her way to make sure we were comfortable. Beautiful setting. Garden looks out on the mountains. Comfy bed and decent shower, very reasonable price for two sharing. I didn’t feel very well with sunstroke and our host helped look after me, bringing me a plate of food inside and a yoghurt tonic. Thank you! Your kindness was appreciated. Hikers note: this accomodation is far down the main road. Probably best to get a lift, hitch or taxi if you’re already knackered from a long day walking POB.

True local experience

The view is amazing, the owner is lovely, it's extremely quiet (only 2 rooms). And it's a true local experience, the owner cooks everything from her garden, she makes her own cheese with the 2 goats that she owns, the breakfast was very good! It's a peaceful break in the busy life (no wifi, very basic communication with the owner who doesn't speak english)

It's a bit far from the start of the hike to Theth, but we did it easily. Otherwise there are minibuses who take tourists walking on the road to bring them at the starting point. The owner doesn't speak english, this was fine for us and we communicated with signs, and she is lovely.

We had a wonderful stay, the host was very accommodating and super friendly. We enjoyed a home-cooked dinner for a fair prize and we were provided with a great packed breakfast/lunch which sufficed for the whole Valbona-Theth hike.

Special place. First to get to it. When you are dropped off at the road, go down the right hand drive, and either move the 3 logs that act as a drive gate, or go though the neighbouring property (Butjina). Delightful host (no english is never a barrier) with great dinner and breakfast (pictured). Out of town, quiet, with amazing view. On each side are mountains, and to the front is another mountain range, so complete surround sound. A special highlight is the glacier just above the accommodation, which is easily reachable. You can see it from the hostel. Follow the red/yellow marked trail (pictured) to just below the glacier. There is a stone river that runs down from it (pictured), or follow any ridge up (they are a gentil gradient). You can't get lost as the forest is sparse and you can see down to the Butjina. Only an easy 45 minutes up from the Butjina.

Welcoming owner who was willing to help the guests and try to understand your needs despite not knowing English. The room was great value with double bed and extra bed, television, windows and a lot of space.

– Nothing to complain about :) Maybe it would be a good idea to get an English menu or some written information on food available and check-in information, because now you struggle some to communicate basic things.

Our stay with Drita was even better than we expected! The place is in such a beautiful place in Valbona: calm, amazing views in the middle of the nature. Drita is a really kind lady who serves fresh dinner, mountain tea, a great breakfast. She is always there to help. The room is super comfortable and clean, everything you need after a long hike in the Alps. It was our most memorable stay in Albania :) We would come back!

A quiet oasit

The apartment, which is separate from the main house, is immaculate and the upstairs room especially has wonderful views down the valley. It's located about 1km from the main Valbona village so it's lovely and quiet. Dorita is an extremely friendly and hospitable host.

Beautiful location with a picturesque mountain view, especially on a sunny day when you can have a breakfast outside. We also had a dinner made to order, all very tasty. Place was very clean and our host really nice. Highly recommended.

Cool remote place to spend a night or two but not longer

The place is in super remote location in Valbona with stunning views of the mountains. The host is extremely kind, though doesn't speak any English so expect some difficulties there.

We visited in the middle of October and it was super cold outside and inside the hut. There was a heater, but it took super long to warm the room etc.

Beautiful guesthouse in Valbone and delicious food!

This is a very nice gueshouse in Valbone, in a very beautiful location surrounded by mountains. The room was quite spatious and clean, with a separate bathroom. The owner was very nice, even not speaking English she was able to help me with everything and prepared very delicious food for dinner and breakfast.

The guesthouse was a bit far from Valbone city center; it was a bit tiring to reach the place if you came walking from Theth that same day, which was what I did. Still, you can try to hitchhike or take a taxi instead.

Awesome views and nature around

It's a cute little house with awesome views and super comfy rooms. Two double rooms in the small house, one loft, one downstairs, with a shared bathroom so you have plenty of space and it's definitely not crowded. No internet, as description says, so you can enjoy your stay in the nature uninterupted (there's phone signal still in case yoh need it). The breakfast was delicious and generous. Bathroom even has a shampoo. The lady doesn't speak much English but it is no problem to communicate what you needneed and she is really nice. It is about 4km to Theth-Valbona trailhead and 1km to a village restaurant. Water is drinkable in contrast to most of Albania so no need to bring a lot from Shkoder.

Everything as described :) Only missing some sign by the gate, there's only a sign for the neighbouring Bujtina Sherifaj, just look for the yellow house.

- the location is stunning, in the middle of the mountains with just a couple of houses in the valley - the breakfast, lunch and dinner ( lunch and dinner payed extra ) were just amazing, I was barely able to eat it all and it was very delicious. - the hostess was very friendly, and even though she did not speak my language, we kinda understood eachother all the time

- The floor in the bathroom was very cold but I guess that’s because it’s still end of may in the mountains, there were flipflops at my disposal as well which was very helpful in this situation - the nearby hotel had a loud music on for almost the whole evening, even after 10PM, I know it’s not the fault of this property, but the even if all the windows were closed, you could hear the music.

A fantastic Albanian homestay experience, hosted by the most welcoming and hospitable family. The location is great if you’re looking for a bit of seclusion in the mountains with stunning views as you enjoy a home cooked breakfast or lunch/dinner (additional charge) in the garden. Property is about a one hour walk from the start of the Theth-Valbonna trail. A relative from the homestay next door is able to speak English so the language barrier was not too much of a problem either. Food was typical Albanian fare. The room was cosy, everything was immaculately clean and the bed was probably the most comfortable during my 3 week travels around the country. Really enjoyed my stay here!

Very nice and comfortable room. Super clean shared bathroom. The view from the garden is amazing. Drita is very kind, she offered us tea and cake when we arrived. We added diner and a lunch paquet for about 15€ for 2. There are a few walking path around. Rooms are a little outside Valbonë, about 15/20mn walking but it’s definitely worth it.
