About this house rental
This newly renovated lakehouse is conveniently located on the quiet and serene Lake Dutchess, just 1 hour 20 min away from NYC. Lake Dutchess is a quiet and serene non-motorized lake, perfect for a weekend getaway! Whether you want to kayak in the spring, bbq and swim in the summer, go apple-picking and enjoy the fall foliage, or cozy up by the fire in the winter, this lakehouse is the perfect retreat all year round!
The house was recently gut renovated, and is fully equipped to accommodate up to 6 people. It has a full chef's kitchen, gas fireplace, washer/dryer, cable tv and wifi. There is a BBQ on the deck overlooking the lake. The kitchen is stocked with everything a chef will need to put on a show! The house also has a private dock with swimming platform, 4 kayaks with paddles, life jackets, fishing rods and a 12ft shuffle board. The main floor has air conditioning, and all bedrooms have ceiling fans and localized heating. Additional amenities include wifi, cable, Beekman 1802 toiletries, high-quality bedlinens, towels and blankets.
The lakehouse is located a mile off of I84 and is a quick 1 hour 20 minute drive from midtown Manhattan. You can also take Metro North's Harlem Line to the Southeast station , which is 10 minutes away.
Local Attractions include: Beacon (Dia Museum, art shops, restaurants), Storm King, Cold Spring (antique shopping, cafes), Dover Springs, Brewster, Carmel. There are a ton of local hiking trails that have been ranked some of the best in the country. We are just a short drive from the Appalachian Trail, Breakneck Ridge, The Beacon Reservoir and The Fire Tower trails. For kids, we are close to Splashdown Beach water park, and several great local farms and orchards for apple, peach, berry, vegetable and pumpkin picking, and maple syrup tasting! For our family visitors, we have a Stokke high chair and baby gate for the stairway, and a full size crib, all available upon request. The kitchen is equipped with kids plates, bowls, and toddler/baby cutlery. We also have two swings below the deck, one standard park style and one bucket style for babies.
Please note the incline down from the house to the lake is steep, so please contact me to discuss further if you have concerns about mobility. The age requirement to book is 28. Due to the septic capacity, we have a maximum occupancy of 6 people.

Great kitchen and very well equipped. The house was super comfortable for our group. We enjoyed the chairs on the dock but it was too cold for kayaks. They would have been fun on a warmer weekend though!

Fully stocked kitchen, beautiful and modern furniture, lovely gas fireplace, very clean, and very comfortable beds! We absolutely loved our stay and did not want to leave. We were surprised to discover a fourth bedroom!

Great house. Very nice spot on the lake. County road behind the house gets pretty busy and noisy—loud exhaust pipes must be a thing in Dutchess County. Really nice owners and not too far from NYC.

This is one of the finest homes we've ever rented, beautifully appointed, clean, modern, spacious, great kitchen, a generous pantry. Dealing with Rebecca was very good, an immediate answer to any concern. The TV took a little bit to understand but the Welcome Book (which was otherwise most helpful) seemed to be missing a page about using the remotes so that needs to be replaced. I also think small dressers in the bedrooms would be helpful but the closets are terrific. It is a very peaceful, very quiet area and my husband and I would sign up now for next month but...
Lake Dutchess was a huge disappointment. I am used to swimming every day in August weather permitting and our weather was just about perfect for the entire month. The lake was a disaster from day one, stagnant and smelly, an overload of algae that only got worse as the days progressed. We never saw anyone using the lake with the exceptions of a couple folks on kayaks once or twice. Rebecca explained that the lake problem was unusual but it depends on temperature and wind. I wish this was indicated in the description of the home because the ability to swim is one of the major activities I look forward to every summer. A real shame all around because, as indicated, the house is great.
