The Shoes is the classic British inn experience - friendly greeting, easy check-in, room above the pub but no noise at all. Lovely, airy room with a comfortable bed and very good bathroom across the hall. The staff are wonderfully helpful and enjoy helping their guests make the most of their stay.
They do things right at The Shoes. You won't be disappointed there.

Really good value for Durham and a quick bus ride into centre. Quiet and next door to a sainsburys express so I could get a snack. Staff really friendly.
Mattress had springs coming through. Needed a mattress topper. Fortunately it was a twin room and I used the duvet off other bed and it was ok.

Staff were extremely lovely and approachable. Rooms were spacious and bathroom facilities were very good. Bed was very comfortable, I was very pleased with the value placed on privacy and comfort.
The only thing that comes to mind is that the kettle was a little tricky to use in both rooms as it seemed very old/ perhaps broken as the lid was very difficult to open. But this was a very minor issue.

Staff is helpful and welcome. Lots of space for parking.
Bathroom is outside of the room, although for private use, which is a bit inconvenient.
