Shiki Suites - Kyoto Umekoji

I liked the size of the room, the kitchenette and the staff were nice.

The location was a little far from a train station and the beds weren't that comfortable. I didn't like the darkness of the room.

I had a wonderful stay at Shiki Suites Kyoto Umekoji and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Kyoto. The room was exactly as advertised on the website, which is something I truly appreciated. It was spacious, clean, comfortable, and equipped with everything I needed during my stay. Although there was no washing machine or dryer inside the room, the hotel provides laundry facilities on the third floor, along with complimentary laundry detergent for guests, which was extremely convenient. The location is also excellent. Kyoto Station is within walking distance, taking only about five minutes if you walk at a brisk pace. There is also a convenient 7-Eleven near the bus stop that I frequently used during my stay. What impressed me most, however, was the outstanding service provided by one of the staff members. I stayed at the hotel twice during this trip because I spent one night in Ine before returning to Kyoto and checking in again. Between my two stays, I needed a place to store my large suitcase overnight. The hotel had previously informed me that overnight luggage storage was generally not available due to limited office space, which I completely understood. However, one of the male staff members from Nepal (unfortunately, I do not remember his name) went above and beyond to help me. Rather than simply declining my request, he took the time to check whether there was enough space available and looked for a solution. In the end, he kindly agreed to store my luggage for me. His willingness to help made my trip much more convenient and stress-free. What impressed me was not only that he helped me, but that he genuinely tried to find a way to make it work instead of immediately saying no. That level of care and customer service is something travelers truly appreciate. Thank you to him and the entire team for their hospitality and professionalism. Experiences like this make a real difference and create lasting memories for guests.

The only minor drawback during my stay was that I occasionally noticed a cigarette smell, despite the hotel’s non-smoking policy. I understand that this may be difficult for the hotel to fully control, but I hope it is something that can be monitored as it would further enhance a therwise excellent guest experience.

One small area for improvement would be the smell of cigarette smoke that occasionally drifted into the room or common areas. Although the hotel is a non-smoking property and smoking is not permitted inside the rooms, there were times when the smell was quite noticeable. I understand that this may have come from outside the building or from other guests, but it was the only aspect of my stay that slightly affected the overall experience.
