About this house rental

Designed by multi-award winning Dualchas architects, the Lighthouse is a private and stylish home with perfect Highland views south over the sea to the Torridon mountains.
The contemporary design has been finished to an exceptional standard providing a place for relaxation and tranquil contemplation or active family holidays. The Lighthouse has recently been selected as a Finalist in the prestigious European Holiday Home Awards 2021 in the category 'Best Beach House'.
Set in a superb natural landscape, the house nonetheless provides every modern convenience, with excellent wifi, Miele appliances, underfloor heating and double glazing throughout. Furnishings have been sourced from the best British designers with Anta hand-woven fabrics, tables and lighting by Tom Raffield and Tala. The house is clad in larch and Douglas fir and has a striking zinc roof. Inside it responds to the fabric of the geography with a focus on the natural - stone, oak, linen, wool and leather accents.
On the ground floor the house has four well-appointed, comfortable bedrooms and two bathrooms, one en suite. There is a further large bathroom upstairs with a dramatic skylight over the bath. The beautiful oak staircase was handmade. The heart of the house is the spectacular first floor open-plan living room with a large down-filled sofa, cosy sheepskin beanbags and wood-burning stove. Huge windows overlook a south-facing balcony and large elevated dining deck, so guests can enjoy the breathtaking views whatever the weather. The smart Italian kitchen, which will satisfy the demands of the most discerning cook, leads directly off the dining area of the living room. A beautiful oak-panelled study with satellite tv provides a perfect evening retreat, in warmth and comfort.

The property is normally rented from a Friday to a Friday, with check out time by 10am and no check in before 5 pm. From the start of June through to the end of August and for the period covering Christmas and the New Year, we only offer rentals of a minimum of seven nights duration. For the rest of the year we are happy to accept shorter rentals (a minimum stay of four nights.) The house is unsuitable for very young children and babies as it has internal and external wooden staircases that end in stone floors and do not accommodate stairgates - we are therefore unable to accept bookings that include children under the age of 5.

Gairloch has been recognised as one of the loveliest places in Scotland for holidays since Queen Victoria's visit in 1877. The Lighthouse is set on the hillside overlooking the historic Gairloch pier with direct access onto the footpath leading to either the harbour, and its pub, restaurant and shop or after a short walk over the headland to one of the most attractive beaches in Wester Ross and the scenic golf course on the dunes. You really could park your car when you arrive and not need to drive again during your stay.
Whether you seek a holiday focussed on beach and sea or walks in a wild landscape there is something for everyone to enjoy. The Lighthouse is equally suited to family holidays, a retreat from the modern world or highland adventures. Activities available locally include; golf, sea and fly fishing, pony-trekking, walking, mountain biking, kayaking, whale watching, sailing and falconry. From the Lighthouse you can walk across to the Flowerdale estate and visit the arboretum or walk up to the dramatic Flowerdale waterfall, and a short drive away are the famous gardens of Inverewe. Above all there are any number of beaches, paths and mountains to explore in some of Europe's most unspoilt country. The house is equipped with guidebooks, maps and books on flora and fauna (as well as a selection of fiction and non-fiction). A powerful telescope on a tripod makes it easy to watch wildlife and birds on the sea and hills or stars at night from the comfort of the balcony. Guests are provided, on receipt of a booking, with a detailed handbook for the house and area so that restaurants and activities can be booked in advance.
