Dream House Duomo Catania

This is one of those places you’d honestly prefer to hide from the world, just to keep it as your own private sanctuary. The apartment is simply incredible. From the very first second, we knew we were staying somewhere with real character and soul. Yes, you do have to conquer over a hundred stairs, but every single step is a price well paid. The reward waiting at the top is a breathtaking terrace overlooking the vibrant Piazza Duomo, with the majestic Mamma Etna watching over you from the distance. You could easily say that this climb is the perfect warm-up before meeting Mount Etna in person! A special and huge thank you goes to Giovanni. He embodies the true, warm spirit of Sicilian hospitality. Giovanni, sitting on that terrace, we truly m’arricriamu! Grazie di cuore! We left with heavy hearts, but with a firm resolution that we will definitely return to our new favorite corner. We recommend this place from the bottom of our hearts, even if we do so a little reluctantly, because some addresses you just want to keep as your own private secret.

The best part of this apartment is the terrace, which has beautiful views over the piazza and of Mount Etna in the right weather. It is very centrally located and close to lots of cafes, restaurants and bars. It was nice and quiet in the evenings. It is approx a 25 minute walk to the train station and 10 minute walk to the airport bus stop.

The property is dated in terms of its furnishings and mod-cons. The property is comfortable though. We only stayed 3 nights and used the kitchen only to make coffee. However, it would probably not be best suited if you wished to prepare full meals as the layout is quite small and awkward. The terrace and views ultimately make up for these matters.

The place is in a very good location, in the central square of Catania. Lovely view of Mount Etna from the rooftop!

The booking was for 3 people for 6 nights. There were problems with safety and amenities. • The air conditioning in the living room did not work. Some lights (in the bedroom and in the upstairs bathroom) did not work, and some light switches were broken. There are old. There was no fire extinguisher, so we did not feel safe. • In the bathroom, the water pressure was very low and the drain did not work well. The bathtub was dirty. • In the kitchen, there were insects, and the electrical devices were old, so we preferred not to use them (except the kettle). • There were problems with the main door and no clear instructions. We got locked out and had to call the owner. • There was no privacy (no doors between bedrooms and livingroom). • After check-out, the owner sent us a personal message complaining about the lights at night (based on a neighbor), which made us feel uncomfortable and like we were being watched. He also blamed us for damage without proof and sent annoying and offensive messages.
