Grand Budapest Penthouse

The apartment is very well located in Budapest, close to the public transports and the city center. Communication with the host was smooth and helpful. The apartment is spacious, clean, and very well-equipped.

Everything! The place where it is situated, the facilities inside, the balcony view, the size of the rooms and apartment. To mention, the host was very very very polite, straight up and helpful with us during the whole stay, Definitely recommend and will come back next time when I visit Budapest!

Our stay was acceptable overall, but unfortunately the apartment and the building have several significant problems that made the experience considerably less comfortable than we had expected. The most serious issue for us was the extremely poor sound insulation throughout the building. What made this particularly difficult was that every major noise incident happened at roughly 3:00–4:00 in the morning. On one night we were suddenly woken by loud banging and moaning from the apartment above, which continued for more than half an hour. On another night, a family who appeared to be leaving for an early flight made enough noise to wake us, and eventually we had to ask them to please keep it down. A couple of nights later we were startled awake yet again, this time by the unmistakable sound of keys rattling and what genuinely seemed to be someone trying to unlock our front door. For several frightening moments we thought somebody was attempting to enter our apartment. It turned out that another guest was simply unlocking the door to his own accommodation. However, because the apartment entrances are positioned extremely close together and provide virtually no acoustic insulation, it sounded as though the keys were actually being used in our own door. These were not minor daytime disturbances. All of these incidents occurred at around 3:00–4:00 a.m. and repeatedly interrupted our sleep. Travelling with children makes getting enough rest especially important, and after being woken in the middle of the night we sometimes slept much later than planned the following morning. As a result, the problem did not end when the noise stopped: it disrupted our plans the next day and even caused us to miss activities we had intended to do during our holiday. For us, this was probably the single biggest drawback of the accommodation.
