Briar Cottage

The cottage was absolutely beautiful. The hosts were brilliant, friendly and approachable at any time. When we arrived, there was a fresh bottle of milk in the fridge and a tasty homemade sponge cake (went down in two sittings). The location was ideal. Even though close to a main road, practically no sound interference thanks to their triple glazing. The parking space inside the courtyard was a bonus. The hosts husband had just been taking the comb from the apiary and thankfully sold us a fresh jar of honey the following morning and it is delicious. A short journey and you can visit Cragside, Rothbury, Alnwick, Amble, Holy Island to name but a few. The lodges interior is very compact, perfect for a couples getaway. Debra is a fantastic host and a generally lovely human being.

Not a negative but even a shorty like myself struggled to have a fully stretched out shower. I actually banged my head when stretching up in the shower but that was the only possible downside.

Self contained and had everything we needed. There was a comprehensive list of eateries and activities in the area.

Was located next to quite a fast road although it wasn’t busy at night and the bedroom had triple glazing so we slept well.

The host met us on arrival and even left us a home baked cake which was delightful. The weather was unseasonably cold with daytime temperatures down to 5 degrees, but there was a log fire which we made use of in addition to central heating.

Lovely cosy cottage. Great location for exploring and walking. And the welcome with a homemade cake was a nice touch.
