Japanese Machiya kanazawa private villa Asanogawa

This well located house is like a museum! I assumed the photos of screens, taiko, etc in the description were from a local museum, but they are actually in the house! We stayed as a group of 4 very comfortably. It was great having a washing machine that washed and dried well. The owner kindly made a reservation for us at a local restaurant 3 minutes away that we never would have found otherwise. The rooms upstairs and the downstairs each had their own air conditioner that worked great!

I had to think hard to come up with anything negative. The air was a little dusty but only I noticed it because of an allergy. (Think grandma’s house vibes.)

Our stay exceeded all of our expectations. The location is absolutely magical, nestled in one of Kanazawa’s most beautiful and historic areas. The traditional machiya has been lovingly restored and is full of charm, character, and history. Every detail has been thoughtfully considered, making the house feel both authentic and incredibly comfortable. It was exceptionally well equipped – everything we could possibly need was provided, and even more. A special thank you to Nagata, who took so much time to explain everything, gave us wonderful recommendations, and made us feel genuinely welcome throughout our stay. His kindness and hospitality made this experience even more memorable.

Honestly, there was nothing we didn’t like. Our only regret was that we couldn’t stay longer! Everything was perfect, and we would have happily spent many more days enjoying this beautiful home and the wonderful atmosphere of Kanazawa.
