There was lots of communication with the host, arranging passport copies etc by email, to enable a self check-in at the end of the afternoon. We felt confident there wouldn't be any access problems - it was good. The host was very responsive to email and gave us free parking (a short distance away) for a rental car on the final night. The property was very clean, and a good place for exploring Kanazawa, one of our favourite cities in Japan.

We didn't find the living area particularly comfortable. Our aim was to stay in for dinner one evening, but we went out instead. It was a holiday weekend, so all of Kanazawa was busy and accommodation generally expensive - 下新町 庵 was a competitive option. Overall the stay was fine.

Wonderful location, just 5 min walk across the bridge from the Higashi Chaya District and 20 min walk to the Kenrokuen Gardens and the Kanazawa Castle. The house is very modern and perfectly clean. The kitchen is fully equipped and we were easily able to make simple meals. The Air Con and heat worked perfectly and quickly made the rooms comfortable. Having many bedrooms allowed each traveler to have a private bedroom. The shower, tub, and toilets are new and beautifully clean. Having a washing machine and am drying rack was a big plus. There is a self service laundromat across the bridge 3 min walk to the north if you have to get things dried quickly.

It was a bit of trouble getting luggage up from the ground floor entrance to the bedrooms on the 3rd floor. It would have been nice to have a couch to sit on somewhere on the second floor. Maybe a narrower kitchen table and a couch tucked up against the wall away from the kitchen? We had planned on meeting our host in person at a specific time, and took a cab over from the train station to make sure we got to the property at the appointed time. When we arrived, our host wasn’t there. We got the self-check in information from our host and were able to open the door and go in. If we had known in advance that we would be using self check-in, we would have spent much more time at the train station before heading to the property. There were just enough towels and bed linens for the stay. A few extra would have been appreciated!
