Amalia Titicaca Lodge

We absolutely loved our stay on the Uros Islands. Juan and his family were so helpful - the food was delicious and Juan took us out on a traditional boat ride. It gets cold at night but the room is set up with heaters and the bed is lovely and comfortable.

Short stay in Amalia Titicaca Lodge on UROS islands is once in a life experience, which I can recommend to everybody who wants to try unique, authentic type of accommodation while looking for relax and tranquility. Amalia Titicaca Lodge is located on premium location on the outer border of UROS islands. We have booked two nights in Amalia Titicaca Lodge with aim to relax there between long transfers from Cusco to Puno (using Cruz del Sol) and from Puno to La Paz (using Peru/Bolivia Hop). This itinerary I can also fully recommend. Juan as host was fantastic - incredibly kind, attentive and helpful. He is part of community and he showed us a lot about UROS community history and its life. All meals provided - Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner - had a very good quality. Part of our rate were boat trips with Juan - one with the speed boat to UROS islands to visit and learn about communities and the second one with traditional boat just around Amalia Titicaca Lodge to explain how the community work with totora reeds, which are used for building/maintaining UROS islands as well as as source of food. One thing to be aware of before visiting UROS islands: Traditional houses don't have heating there, so it can be really cold during the clear nights. However with 5 layers of prepared blankets the cold nights are easily manageable. Visitors shall treat it as part of authentic experience on UROS islands (despite this fact lodge is equipped with additional gas or ethanol heating and Juan will be happy to assist you if decide to use it).

Juan was an excellent host. The surroundings of Lake Titcaca were amazing, lodge was very cool and food was lovelly. The highlight was a personal trip in a traditional totara boat on the lake where Juan gave us a potted description of life on the Uros.

Our Lake Titicaca experience staying at the Amalia Titicaca Lodge was simply magic - despite not having the best weather. Juan was an amazing host. He and his family have built some beautifully appointed accommodation which have almost 360 degree views. Juan collected us from the port, gave us a private tour of the Uros Islands and we were served three lovely meals prepared by his wife. We learned a lot from Juan - both their traditional life where fishing was the main money earner and today's life where tourism is king. We felt this was a much more enjoyable and authentic Uros experience in comparison to the numerous day tours on offer. We highly recommend Amalia Titicaca Lodge.
