Uros Lodge Perú

We had a fantastic stay at Uros Lodge Perú on Lake Titicaca! The hosts made our arrival completely stress-free by arranging a private driver to pick us up from the Puno train station, and Walter’s father was waiting at the dock with the boat to bring us to the island. The entire family was incredibly nice, making us feel perfectly safe while generously sharing insights into their daily life and unique culture. Our room was very spacious with great beds, the home-cooked meals were delicious, and they reliably arranged a wonderful visit for us to Taquile Island. We also loved the reed boat trip—their dog, Cola, was a great companion along the way! Between the exceptional hospitality, the tranquil lake views, and Walter’s amazing bird museum, this was a perfect, authentic experience. Highly recommended!

Leaving too soon!

Tout. Walter et sa famille sont adorables, bienveillants aux petits soins. Tout a été organisé pour que nous passions un très agréable séjour. La chambre est rustique mais très propre et rien ne manque. Vue imprenable sur le lac et le village UROS. Les nuits sont fraîche mais un chauffage d’appoint est disponible ainsi que de nombreuses couvertures.

A highlight of our trip has to be our stay on a floating Uros island on Lake Titicaca with Walter, his wife Elena, their baby, dog Cola, his father Sabina and Momma Maria. Walter and his dad built the island 10 years ago from reeds and have built everything on it. The islands are anchored to poles in the nearby shallow reeds and are all tied together. Walter speaks English fluently and was born on the islands. We arrived late but it wasn’t a problem. Walter’s dad came and picked us up in a little motor boat and Elena fixed us something to eat. Walter, and Cola, took us around all the Uros islands in a traditional reed boat he and his father made. He arranged a tour for us to Taquile Island. We spent one afternoon lounging on the outside canopy bed enjoying watching the birds and reading. There is a museum full of birds that Walter had made out of reeds. They are accurate replicas and he has information about each species. He has also made miniature boats and houses. We thought about doing a home stay but this was better because we were the only guests on the island and we had great accommodations. Our room was very large with a big bathroom, hot water, a flushing toilet and a natural toilet. It got very cold at night but we stayed warm under all the covers on the bed. There was also a propane heater. The food that Elena made was very good, especially the trout! We really felt close to Walter and Elena and we will always remember them.

Struttura unica nel suo genere formata da diverse capanne le cui fondamenta sono su radici che unite fra di loro formano un’isola galleggiante. Host (marito, moglie e cane CocaCola) fantastici. Bello giro in barca offertoci per tornare al Porto il mattino seguente, durante il quale Walter il nostro host ci ha spiegato l’origine delle isole Galleggianti sul lago e la vita nelle isole.

Purtroppo, sono da segnalare alcuni disservizi, difficoltà di comunicare con gli host per mancanza di segnale Internet, difficoltà a raggiungere la struttura perché dipende da un servizio di barca navetta, acqua con bassa portata e la calda non disponibile, lenzuola di materiale sintetico, stanza fredda, possibile presenza di parassiti o piccoli acari della polvere nel letto, colazione scarsa e sotto le aspettative, in base ancora una volta alle recensioni lente (uova e frutta erano però molto buone).
