San Marco Guesthouse

Lovely property in a great location. It had everything you needed for a comfortable and enjoyable stay.

Great location in Valletta, easy check-in instructions and access to the room. Historic building

interior might be exchanged into something more modern. For example. there was only one chair in my double room provided.

Standard for what you get, cheap and no major issues.

sub-par facilities and cleanliness

Good location, spacious room, bed comfort okay. AirCon worked wonderfully. Wi-Fi good, and entry code locks operated correctly. Towels were good, fluffy and quality.

On the morning of departure received email from the hotel saying €1.50 payable per evening booked to receive entry codes. Paid immediately what felt like being held to ransom. No codes provided until after arriving in Malta, connecting to local phone network to see updates and lack of contact from hotel admin and lack of codes. So had to chase and eventually provided codes to get in, but they had said these would be sent after payment, and that was confirmed hours before, so no excuses. Room dirty and no cleaning during our stay; toilet never cleaned before we arrived and covered in previous room occupants urine and pubic hairs. On arrival the sheets & pillowcases were not clean and showed signs of creases from prior use. Water pressure pathetic in sink and shower. Bathroom vanity unit mirror not properly attached to the wall so fell off. Shower dirty - never been cleaned? Sink too small and bathroom vanity unit mirror protruded so unable to access the tiny sink. Kettle, 2 mugs, a wine glass and a brandy glass and a glass cup provided but no tea, coffee, sugar nor milk so absolutely pointless and gathered dust. Moreover - the mugs and cups were dirty and had hair in them. Had to dispose of used toilet paper in a tiny bin beside the toilet. Disgusting, and only for room 4, it seems!! No nearby shops nor facilities, but they were a few blocks walk away. Morning traffic noise woke us up every day - lorries, buses, scooters, cars, and all blasting their horns.
