We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this beautiful property in the hills. The stone cottage is adorable and we appreciated all the sitting areas both inside and out. The pool was a highlight for us and allowed us to cool off and relax poolside. Susan is a very kind and helpful host, offering great suggestions for activities and places to eat. We often just picked up groceries from the small village 10 minutes away and cooked and BBQed for ourselves so we could enjoy our evenings at the cottage. My son loved the presence of Susan’s sweet Labradors who would pop by to check on us throughout the day. The location is very rural but allowed us to do day trips to a variety of locations including: Lucca, Pisa, the beaches of Viareggio, Cinqueterre and up to Barga, Devil’s Bridge and Grotta del Vento in the mountains. Thanks for a wonderful stay!

It couldn’t have been better. Susan made us feel very welcome and gave us good advice on where to go for tours, the best way to get there and where to park. She was always available, but never intrusive. We almost felt like visiting family members. I would highly recommend this place if you’re looking for a quiet retreat near historic sites.

Wonderful hosts -- very thoughtful and interested in us having an enjoyable vacation -- couldn't have been nicer and helped us greatly to find local attractions of interest. The three charming old stone houses on the property are secluded and very quiet. Also quite spacious and well-equipped. A great place to stay in Tuscany.

This was a bucket list trip to stay in a beautiful farmhouse in Tuscany and Podere Consani did not disappoint! Susan was very friendly and helpful, the property is beautiful and peaceful and Napo the dog is a very friendly host. The road up is pretty steep and winding but worth the views and privacy. Thank you Susan.

We had a fantastic stay in Podere Consani. We stayed in the three bedroom house. It is spacious, it also has three bathrooms which is great and a living room that stayed cool during the (hot) days. The bedrooms have airconditioning. Susan offered great advice and has extensive knowledge of the region. Lucca is very close by but the house and (beautiful!) garden is very quiet. Highly recommended and thank you Susan!

We had the BEST time on this lovely property near Lucca. We enjoyed the pool, grounds, pets, farm animals and hiking nearby. It is an easy drive into Lucca and our host had great advice on where to park and local businesses. The home was very private, spacious and the en-suite bathrooms were great for our family. Charming interior and beautiful grounds. Highly recommend

Podere Consani is one of the most personable VRBO experiences I've had. Susan is a lovely, helpful hostess. We really enjoyed getting to know her family and were grateful for her advice and assistance. She helped us arrange for a chef catered meal, cooking lessons, and gave advice for local trips. She was extremely responsive to any issues with the functioning of the property. I would strongly recommend renting a car to fully enjoying the property's surrounding area - the drive up to the property is a bit hilly, FYI.

Had a relaxing and memorable stay near Lucca. The hostess and Host, and their family were lovely people and went out of there way to made us feel at home. This is a wonderful little spot to discover this part of Tuscany. I would be happy to go back and enjoy this little piece of paradise.

We had a wonderful week (Oct 15.-21.) at Podere Consani! It is a perfect location for relaxing and discovering the landscape and the interesting cities nearby like Lucca, Pisa and Viareggio. Susan ist a wonderful and kind host, she gave us helpful recommendations and it was always a pleasure talking to her. We enjoyed to stay in the house with its characteristic tuscanian furniture and beautiful details. In the middle of October it was still sunny and warm, we always had breakfast outside and loved to walk around the farm with the olive trees, the horses and dogs. We can absolutely recommend the house an enjoyed our stay very much. Christian and Claudia

This delightful agriturismo was our home for 7 days in September. The 250 year old house is a gem, beautifully renovated with stylish furniture; good quality linen, and all the necessary household appliances. Sue was a truly charming hostess, with helpful advice about the area, and always on hand to assist. Highly recommended
We found Podere Consani beautifully ‘hidden’ in the Tuscan hills, with luscious green all around. The scenery was great wherever we looked, and the cheerful singing of birds added to the charm. And, yet, this house is really not far (by heart I think no more than 10-15 kilometers) from our beloved city of Lucca. And Pisa, Viareggio beach, or even Firenze are all easy to reach in a day’s trip. But you need not to bother, while all you can wish for and expect from Tuscany is found on that hill. And a supermarket for getting your groceries just right down the hill, if you will.
We rented the larger of the two houses on the premises: the one that has several rooms at split levels and a warm and cosy, cottage-style atmosphere. The house was clean and comfortable, the kitchen well-equipped indeed, and every room tastefully decorated, which makes it easy to readily feel at home. And although we were there in springtime, we were lucky with the weather and did enjoy sitting outdoors as well, while sweet labrador dogs sometimes came around to quietly lie with us, as if we had been living on that hill forever. The big outside table was great for having breakfast, lunch or dinner in the shade, or for playing a game with our children. It took us a bit of courage but with a deep breath we even concurred the pool early May. This house, its garden and the surroundings are just great and we can highly recommend it indeed.
Thank you, Susan and family, for your friendly hospitality and for sharing Consani with us.

Where do I even begin?! Sue and her family are an absolute joy and we loved getting to know them and their pets on their beautiful property.
The house itself was well appointed and we felt at ease immediately. The patio on the house provided wonderful views, honeysuckle scented breezes, and lots of opportunity for our family to connect. I cannot recommend this listing enough- we will be sure to return!
Lucca is 15-20 minutes away and Sue suggested a wonderful market and dinner options along the route. She was so kind as to help us find our way around and even helped schedule a dinner reservation for us. Way above and beyond!
We left with great memories and hearts glad for the time we got to spend in this wonderful place!
Book here- you'll be glad you did!
Thanks again Sue and family!

We had a lovely time in a beautiful place. The pictures are a pretty accurate representation of the villa, which is located at the top of a hill up a 2km winding road, amongst olive trees. The pool is welcome after time in the hot Tuscan sun and is very well looked after. Susan and her husband are really welcoming and always available for advice. Well located for Lucca, and pretty close to Pisa with easy access to more distance Florence and other Tuscan sites. Easy to book, and communication, direction, etc all very good. A real find and our first experience of HomeAway - 5 stars from me!!

We travelled as 2 couples, had the best time relaxing at our villa, cooking for ourselves, eating alfresco, enjoying a good red wine. All 3 bedrooms have their own ensuite, kitchen, dining, open fire in lounge, laundry, pool, outdoor eating and beautiful views. Our wonderful host, Susan, whom speaks perfect English and Italian, was on hand with good day trip advice and local knowledge without ever being intrusive. We loved to wave to her family, watch the equestrian school, pick some grapes, witness the men shaking the olives from the trees, relax on the property and enjoyed the company of the familys 2 beautiful Labrador dogs. The smaller villa was vacant when we were there. A car is a must to access the property and to grocery shop at the local town not far away. Lucca is not far away and a great walled city to enjoy. Thanks again Susan, we thoroughly loved our week xxxx

Our stay exceeded all expectations! My wife, 2 young girls, parents, and I enjoyed a week here at the end of August. The property is gorgeous and more beautiful than the pictures do it justice. The mountain views, the natural surroundings (flowers, rolling lawn, olive trees, grapevines), the beautiful old stone structures - altogether they make for as scenic and serene an atmosphere as could be asked for. The pool was sparkling clean (and kept clean throughout our stay). The homes had everything we could desire - also tidy and comfortable. Susan and her family were perfect hosts - they were attentive and available when we needed them, but we also had a feeling of privacy. Susan gave us all the instruction we needed to find local attractions, and even had a cycling map from a prior visitor (*incredible* cycling in Tuscany). We'll savour our memories here for a lifetime and hope to visit you again Susan. Best to your wonderful family!

If you are looking to escape to a different world of peace and tranquility then you will find it at Podere Consani. We have just spent a wonderful week staying in Casa Cherubim and enjoyed it's rustic charm.Susan and family made us feel very welcome and gave us several tips on places to visit. The 2km drive up to the house and the roads around the surrounding hills were quite a challenge but the views are worth it. On our first evening Susan arranged for us to have a meal prepared for us. Their cook served us a delicious six course dinner sitting outside in the garden. The location is ideal for exploring Lucca from where you can reach Pisa and Florence by train.

Second time around
Second time around
We (myself, my husband, our 8 year old son and dog) are like cats who will alsways find our way back to Podere Consani!!! May 2015 was our second time at there, we stayed again for 2 weeks, but this time in La Cappana (which I think means Bell - there is an old church up the hill of which the bell rings in the evening - a walk up there is a must - a small little taverna sits right opposite the church) Susan and her family welcomed us, as the previous time, with warmth and kindness. As always, they were there, but never were, neither our privacy nor our relaxation time ever intruded. The pictures of La Capanna on the website is every bit and more of what it has to offer. The two big bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms are down stairs and the kitchen with living room and dining area are upstairs. Staying in this beautiful stone house, with the pool right our your doorstep, rather feels more like home than a rental. I loved preparing the food in the kitchen with its huge windown overlooking the olive groves and the valley...made it hard to stay out of the kitchen!!! Once a week at the local super market in San Marino in Freddana, fresh fish from the ocean are sold. Preparing that on the outside grill (BBQ) on the terrace, with a good glass of Tuscan wine, the peace and quiteness of the surroundings, you would wish that This never ends!!!! Everyone of us had a good time and was happy, even our dog, who had Napo and Puma to play with, the family's two labradors. We have already booked again for May 2016!!! It is something about the people and the place, it just feels

Fabulous stay
We visited this lovely property as a family for a birthday celebration and it was truly wonderful. The cottage is exceptionally comfortable with everything you could need - including 2 beautiful friendly Labradors who love to join the family! The pool is a little chilly in early June but was warming up as we left and there is no more beautiful place to relax in perfect peace and quiet. The owners are a delight, helpful yet unobtrusive. Lucca is just a few miles away and we also very much enjoyed our visits to the beach and the Cinque Terre - what a fantastic part of Italy. All I can say is if you want tranquility and beautiful (slightly isolated!) surroundings then thus is perfection. Can't wait to visit again.

Wir sind dann mal weg!
Wir sind dann mal weg!
Liebe Susan!

A wonderful stay in true Tuscan style
A wonderful stay in true Tuscan style
Stayed for one week with my husband and our two best friends as part of celebrating our 20th Anniversary. We couldn't have chosen a more peaceful and relaxing location. Podere Consani is situated in the rolling hills just north of Lucca. Making the drive to the property after sunset was a bit challenging, but thanks to GPS we found it no problem. We were warmly welcomed on arrival by Susan who gave us a overview of the property. Casa Cherubino is a lovely 3-story stone farmhouse with kitchen, dining room & laundry on the lower level off the back entrance. Several steps up onto the main level is the main entrance with livingroom and the larger of the 3 bedrooms with en suite bathroom, with both tub & shower. Countinuing up another flight of stairs off the main entrance are to 2 nicely sized bedrooms, both equipped with their own private bathroom. The layout worked out great for the four of us. Everyone had their private space, all with the added convenience of private bathrooms.
The grounds of Podere Consani were very peaceful and tranquil, situated among olive groves. We love animals so it was a treat for us to walk down to the stables and see the horses and goats and of course, to have Napo and the property cats around to play with.
Podere Consani was a great central location for us to make our day trips to Pisa, Lucca, & Florence. We had most of our sightseeing arranged, but Susan was very helpful about giving us great tips on touring the local area.
Our only regret was being November it was too cold to use the pool, but we enjoyed using the fireplace, even roasting chestnuts the old-fashioned way. We even managed to prepare a couple tasty locally inspired dishes, Spaghetti alla Carbonara & Osso Buco. Susan was kind enough to even let us try their locally produced wine and olive oil.
We really had a enjoyable and relaxing time at Casa Cherubino. Would definitely love to return in the spring or fall and enjoy the rest that this lovely place has to offer.

Ever seen pictures of your approaching vacation destination and are disappointed because the pictures were better then real life? Well, let me tell you, this is one of those rare occassions when the pictures just don't do it justice. What an amazingly beautifull villa, in the most spectacular setting. I don't have enough space to write it all- very clean and beautifully restored home- we had all the comforts and had no desire to leave the property during our stay so as not to miss the beauty- I could have walked all day around the grapes and olives....and oh the horses!!! BUT you must visit nearby Lucca or walk up the hill to watch the artist turn olive wood into the most beautiful pieces! These Americans are coming back for sure!

Perfect Two Weeks
Perfect Two Weeks
A beautiful and perfect place to relax and enjoy the Tuscan hills, the surroundings and hospitality.
We arrived a few hours later than expected, but it was still a warm welcome that awaited us. After showing us the house, (we stayed in the 3 bedroom) Susan, the owner, she is English, her husband Italian, was kind enough to phone a local trattoria in San Martino in Freddana, which is about 5-10 minutes from Podere Consani, for a pizza and pasta take away. Our son, who is 7 years old, immediately befriended the children from the family who rented the 2 bedroom house (which is as lovely and well aquipt) and our dog, an 10 month old Airdale terrier, the owners Labrador, Napo. ..and there our unforgettable holiday started!!
The house itself was a joy to stay in. It has everything - the dishwasher was out of order the second day, but it was fixed right away. One is well looked after if in need!!
The weather in the first week was above the 30's, so the pool was a most welcome sight every morning!! Its clean and a nice size to swim off all the delicious food and wine of the region.
Podere Consani lies on a hilltop above Torcigliano, driving up there might feel that you are heading for the most remote place on earth, but a gem awaits you. Driving it up and down a few times, it all gets very familiar and one starts to enjoy it. Lots of green and the olive trees just look pictureous. On the Podere itself there are vines, olive trees, goats and horses - free to wunder, free to feed and free to just enjoy the scenery.
During the last 3 days of our stay, me, my son and the other kids took some riding lessons from Mara. She is excellent in what she does and we realy enjoyed every minute of it.
On the last night we were treated by home made pizza's, made in the out door oven by Susan's husband, Lelio. The best!!! It was a great night ending off our holiday.
We realy had a lovely time on Podere Consani, and can honestly recommend it. Next year we will go back to which ever house will be available. Marietha, Herbert Joshua and Nandi

Be assured the house and facilities are as good as the description. The owners and family are warm and welcoming and full of useful information and ideas without being intrusive. The property was beautifully clean and perfectly located for seeing all the major attractions and cities in the area, but also relaxing and peaceful for just staying poolside. Would recommend without hesitation and hope to return again and again.

Our perfect Tuscan holiday
Our perfect Tuscan holiday
My husband and I and our two children (8 &10) stayed at Podere Consani during June 2012. As Australians who had always dreamed of a Tuscan holiday, we were thoroughly gratified with our experience as guests on this quiet picturesque estate.
In short our expectations were exceeded.
On our arrival at Podere Consani we could not believe how quintessentially Tuscan the property actually was. The roses surrounding the very inviting pool were in full bloom, the lavender swaying in the breeze with the gorgeous restored stone farmhouse a stunning backdrop, the grapevine covering the pergola walkway providing a shady pathway to see the expansive view of Lucca in the valley below.
Our hosts Susan and Lelio were marvellous and worked hard to make sure we were welcome and were familiarised with everything about our accommodation and how to get around the surrounding area to obtain anything we needed. We were free to wander the property and inspect the vineyard, the large vegetable garden and watch the equestrian centre also run on the property in action. There were dogs and cats for the kids to play with and goats to feed. Apart from spending some gloriously tranquil time reading under the mulberry tree while my children were endlessly entertained in the pool, I think one of my favourite things was standing bare foot in the olive grove hanging my washing on lines between the trees!
The accommodation in the Casa di Cherubino itself was excellent. All the items you would need were catered for and more. We needed to stay in touch with our business whilst we travelled and were able to communicate easily and research day trips etc on the web without any problem. The bathrooms were lovely and worked beautifully. The bedrooms were comfortable and offered postcard views from every window.
Susan helped us to travel easily and enjoyably to Lucca and Florence, Pisa and the Cinque Terre and to the seaside. On our final evening she outdid herself by suggesting a restaurant up in the hills where we were treated to many mouth watering courses whilst enjoying the sun set over the stunning Tuscan landscape.
We simply didn’t want to leave and we have every intention of returning if we are able to.

Paradise at Podere Consani in Lucca
Paradise at Podere Consani in Lucca
My family stayed at Podere Consani in October 2012 for five magical days. There were six of us in total and we had the larger of the two villas on the property. My sister and her husband had never been to Italy before, so, I wanted to find a place that was special, and it was! We arrived late and couldn’t see the surroundings outside but the villa itself was wonderful. It had three large bedrooms, each with their own renovated bathrooms decorated in lovely Italianate style. The beds were very comfortable and there were beautiful hand-painted armoires and dressers in all of the rooms. The sitting room was large enough for all six of us to sit around in the evening and play games and chat. The kitchen was also large and perfectly equipped for home cooked meals that we made every night and sat reminiscing about what we had seen during the day in the separate dining room. All the little details of the place made you feel like you were home. On waking that first day and peering out through the arched window, I was so excited. It was like walking into a dream. Roses cascading over wooden fences, the sparkling blue pool, the grapevine arbor leading to vistas of the Lucca hills, the olive trees filled with precious black and green gems, the horse stables busy with activity, the lush green pastures. It was just perfect and I really didn’t want to leave to go sightseeing. The pool was closed for the season but the boys ran around outside exploring every aspect of the property coming back with excited cries of “mom, come see this” or “look what we found”. Our friendly hostess, Susan, was amazing. She was always there when you needed something and gave wonderful advice on what things to see and do. From Podere Consani, we did easy day trips to Lucca, Florence, Portovenere and the Cinque Terre. A highlight of our stay was helping to harvest olives. It was the start of the harvest season and nets were being spread out around the trees. We were warmly welcomed to help out and shown how to pick the olives without bruising them. This was a favorite activity after sightseeing all day or in the mornings before heading out. Susan even took us to where her olives were pressed run by the same family for generations. We met the entire family and were given a private tour. At the end, Susan produced an empty bottle and they filled it with the emerald green first press oil for us to take as a gift. Podere Consani was heaven and we want to go back!
