Riftswood

An amazing guesthouse/B&B in delightful Whitby, northeast Yorkshire, England. Our hosts, Paula and Peter made us feel more than welcome. Paula collected us, two blind people, from Whitby train station in her car as we arrive quite late in the evening. She refused any payment for petrol. The accommodation has two double, upstairs, en-suite rooms, with one other available when, occasionally, necessary. Cooked full English breakfast included in room price. Sireals, toast with butter and jam, fried eggs, sausage, bacon, hash browns, etc. Plus juice and tea/coffee available. The en-suite upstairs rooms are reached by two lots of carpeted steps, with handrails. Room has carpet on floor .Small table on each side of the large double bed. Bed includes sheets, pillows and comfy duvet. Bathroom has good shower with good pressure and hot water. Sink with hand soap, small bin and a toilet with plenty of paper. Shower jell and shampoo in bottles on the wall in the shower. Bath mat in bathroom, hung over shower door. Two hand towels and two bath towels included in room. Free, tea/coffee sashays, plus sugar and milk sashays in room along side large cookies. Replemished daily! Also small chocolate balls! Yummy! Small kettle on table in room, near the door. TV on wall Some free parking in front of guesthouse. A 10/15 minute walk to nearest bus stop for the Hop-on, Hop-off bus and to the famous Whalebone arch and promenade. Whitby is small enough to walk around if reasonably fit. Key to enter guesthouse, second key to enter room. Chest of draws and a wardrobe in room, plus 1-2 comfy chairs. Plug sockets and plug bars near, or under double bed. Hosts couldn't do enough for us, very friendly, happy to chat with guests, answer questions and were very personable. Tipical Northeast characters :). Would definitely stay again. Several take-away food options near to guest house. Many attractions in Whitby to visit. 4 nights is a good stay, could have stayed longer.

Hooks on bathroom door and room door, but extremely high to reach. Could do with more accessible plug sockets, the plug bars were under the bed and hard to reach. No lift/elevator to floor with the bedrooms. Guesthouse may not always be available due to having only two rooms for guests. A little far from Whitby town Centre.

The property is in a great location, within walking distance to the centre and attractions. The room was clean and tidy with amenities renewed each day. Fabulous breakfast……. Great hosts

Couldn’t fault anything

Paula and Pete are a lovely couple. Unfortunately my husband was taken ill on our first evening and ended up in Scarborough hospital for 4 days. Paula offered to drive me to the hospital every day as I can't drive. They gave me a room to use as we were due to leave on Friday morning. Every day they enquired about my husband's progress. Such a kind and caring couple. The room we had originally was spacious and comfortable. The breakfast was delicious with as much tea coffee,and toast as you wanted. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending to anyone.

The hosts, Paula & Peter were very welcoming and made you feel at home. The accommodation is at the end of a lane, so is very quiet. Parking is easy in front of the accommodation. The room was spacious and had everything you would need. Breakfast was fantastic and I highly recommend the Fortune kippers, but equally the English breakfast is superb. Paula and Peter are very accommodating and nothing is too much trouble. On arrival we were met by Paula who showed us to our room and asked if we would like a welcome drink and cake. We chose the wine and fruit cake but tea or coffee is also an option. What a lovely welcome gesture.
