Property is next to the pool and after days out of markets scenic drives and eating it was nice to return to the peace and quiet and a comfy bed

Nice host but property very old and tired and dirty as we needed to hoover everywhere and clean the shower. Walls covered in cobwebs which was a real shame as o lovely location. We left after two days and moved elsewhere which cost us an additional £500. Plus the stairs to the bedroom were too steep and dangerous and this should be mentioned in the advertisement and a large frog lived under the settee that appeared in the last day to say goodbye.

Lovely place and fantastic location, Craig and Sue were great. Plenty of knowledge to give where the petrol stations were, supermarkets and places of interest. We loved our honeymoon here and would definitely return in the future. Thank you both for a great relaxing time.

Enjoyed a relaxing, peaceful week, went out in the mornings visiting the nearby towns and villages, then home to sit by the lake listening to the birdsong. Enjoyed the fishing and the ducks which kept us company ! Overall a fantastic week, very lucky with the weather, we hope to return in the near future. Thank you Craig and Sue for being so helpful and welcoming.

Relaxing break
Beautiful spot, Sue and Craig are lovely hosts and very helpful. Ducks and cats stole the show. Worth returning to for another stay, could have sat by the lake all day.

An oasis
We had an amazing time here. The owners were brilliant. Craig was so helpful in finding us a place to get our PCR tests done for coming back to the UK. It'd a lovely spot and so peaceful by the lake with just the ducks for company.

Absolute heaven
Even though some of the weather wasn't ideal the stay at Sue and Craig's cottage was joyful. Normally takes us a couple of days to de-stress on holidays. Not here. A couple of hours. The aspect of the lake has an unbelievably good effect on you. The cottage is even better than the photos on the website. Large amounts of space and great comfort.
Some of the sunsets are brilliant. The wild life is incredible and the ducks great fun.
The test result here is we only went out in the evening 3 times in a fortnight. It was so enjoyable to sit with a glass of wine and watch the sun go down over a BBQ. We would both thoroughly recommend a stay here.

A peaceful retreat.
Met by lovely hosts who were helpful friendly and non intrusive. Well equipped home, peaceful setting 5m from river. 3 min drive to supermarket and restaurant. Good base to explore a beautiful part of France. Would recommend without doubt.

An idyllic break
A lovely little cottage in a perfect spot. We loved our stay, it was a lovely peaceful place where we could just unwind and enjoy our break. The lake was a real bonus and the ducks brought smiles to our faces each day. Our hosts, Sue and Craig, are lovely people and nothing was too much trouble. Our only regret is that we didn't book for two weeks.

A lovely gite in a beautiful location
Craig and Sue were the perfect hosts. They were helpful when needed without being too attentive. The gite was clean, comfortable and well equipped. The lake was occupied by a family of ducks who very quickly became our 'welcome home brigade'.
We found plenty of places to visit during our three-week stay, and the 'plat de jour' at the Lion d'Or restaurant was a regular highlight.
I would recommend this gite to anyone wanting a quiet, relaxing holiday in a beautiful setting.

Lovely comfortable cottage run by really nice people with a great little restaurant only 3 kms away and wonderful Fugeres 24 kms drive. Freindly hosts, ducks and Bob the cat. Highly recommended

First of all a big thank you to Sue and Craig : you are great hosts.
We had a wonderful week in La Blanchardière. Everything you need for a short stay is there. On colder days the wood burner keeps you warm. During our stay (End of April) we used it every day.
Very nice idyllic place, great to relax. sitting on the terrace and watching and feeding the ducks. They are instant friends as soon as you feed them :)
We definitely recommend this gite !

Rustic idyll
I don't usually write reviews, however I was so saddened by one of the reviews on here that I felt moved to respond. This little place by a pretty lake is one of our favourite spots in France, We love it because of the cleanliness, care and attention to detail that has been put into this lovely little hideaway in such a peaceful rural spot. I guess that being so rural and tranquil isn't everybody's cup-of-tea. The butterflies flutter past, there are ducks and bees and yes....the odd spider making a web.....and that is why we personally think that this is a little bit of paradise! If we do want to get out and about, there are some very pretty villages....several noted as being "villages fleuris". The stunningly beautiful city of Fougeres is close by and is our favourite day out. We will return......

too rustic !!
we read the reviews and looked at the photos, so why was this the worst place we had stayed in france ?.The cottage was not at all clean we had to do it when we arrived , the shower drain was blocked with hair, and the kitchen ceiling was covered in brown grease, which we could not clean off.All the windows were covered in cobwebs and dirty (very rustic), please don't look behind the settee as we did or you are in for a shock (we left that insect grave yard for the owners). On the safety side the stairs are very steep open tread with no hand rail , when we told the owners they said they may put in a rope ,I am not joking !, this is a pity because the area is great and not to far from the coast for a day out . All this place needs is a little TLC and a good clean

Chilling with the ducks, dog cat at Sue & Craig's
If you are looking to escape from the headaches of a 9 to 5 lifestyle and in search of peace, quiet, unspoilt countryside and wonderful hosts then La Blanchardiere is a must consider. As soon as you turn off the main road (okay it's a wide lane really) towards the house you immediately notice you are in unspoilt countryside and ahead of you is your home for the next few days, sitting on the side of a small lake. The only problem with this was that I wanted to go and look at the lake, whilst my wife was more interested in where we would be living for our stay. I was straight into relaxation mode closely followed by my wife. First impressions hit the mark straight away – this is a place to chill - and the rest of the week was no different.
The gite is "patrolled" by a local gang called The Ducks, who will be your best mates forever or until you run out of food for them at which point they will waddle off allowing you to find something else for them. And when you get fed up feeding the ducks there are the fish that are grateful for any spare bread you may have.
Then of course there is Cat, who like most cats comes and goes as he pleases with the occasional acrobatic display as he hunts in the nearby fields. But the biggest local is Cassie, Sue & Craig's dog who has a buoy as his favourite ball. Yes a floating water buoy! He too wants to be your holiday mate and will reward you with a sloppy wet doggy lick, but only if you let him. As for our hosts, Sue & Craig, they went out of their way to make us feel of home and share with us any local knowledge they had.
Okay now for the down side- We only got out doing the full touristy bit on one day! Simply because we just kept relaxing by the lake, apart from a few local trips for more wine and cheese. For us it was the perfect break and a great excuse for us to return to do the touring at some point in 2017.
The day we did get away from the silence was to Le Mont St Michel which we can thoroughly recommend and can easily fill up a day and into the evening.
Sue & Craig have some great plans for the future and we are looking forward to having to pop over to check out their progress so long as we can have a few site meetings over a glass of wine or two.
Thanks to you both for a truly relaxing break and looking forward to seeing you all soon.

Fabulous French Find!
Sue & Craig offer a beautiful traditional gite in a gloriously peaceful & private setting. The gite is very clean & comfortable with a fab wood burner, gorgeous bedroom & well equiped kitchen - also has great WiFi connection & access to British tv! Note, the gite is all over more spacious than the photo's suggest. The gardens & pond are idyllic. I spent a lot of time walking around the vast grounds & sitting in the garden by the pond with a glass of chilled wine watching the ducks, who are very entertaining & now my new best pals!! Sue & Craig & Cassie are lovely hosts, very friendly & welcoming so much so we'll see them again next year! La Blanchardiere is a very special place, pure bliss!💜 I would certainly recommend.

Another lovely week
Another great week with Sue and Craig. This is our third time here and was as lovely as the first. The cottage is great and so are the hosts. Wonderful way to spend the evening sat by the lake having a bbq and the odd glass of wine, the kingfisher and jays made several appearances, not forgetting the floor show provided by the ducks. There is plenty to do and see in the local area and Sue and Craig are on hand to give plenty of advice. If you're reading this then book it, doubt if you will regret it.

Magical place
If you want an absolute get away from it all, this is the place. Perfect location, surroundings, a lovely countryside home with perfect hosts who cannot help you enough. We enjoyed everyday watching the ducks and catching fish, we were so relaxed we didn't want to leave! A little piece of heaven on earth, thank you Sue & Craig for sharing this beautiful haven.

Sleepy Hollow!
What a fabulous little place. It nestles near the top of a small valley in it's own secluded little hollow, quite literally in the middle of nowhere. You won't hear any traffic noise, just birdsong, (and ducks!). The cottage is cosy, with a decent bathroom & a good sized bedroom, (if you're not too mobile the stairs could be a bit tricky). We spent two weeks in blissful peace and quiet, in the company of woodpeckers, kingfishers, herons, jays, kestrels, buzzards, ducks, and a deer, and the fishing is good as well. Would we go back?.. YES!!. Everything about the place, including Sue and Craig, made it a teriffic holiday.

Fabulous
We enjoyed every second of our stay with Sue and Craig. The location is fantastic and tranquil. Right from the day of arrival we felt at home. We got lost and Craig came and guided us to their place. It was welcoming and the cottage is cozy and well stocked.
Sue and Craig are fantastic, very helpful and made our stay a memorable one.
We would definitely want to return back.

Relaxing Retreat
Lovely gite in peaceful surroundings. Hosts great. Great lakeside garden Husband fished the lake every day while i sat there drinking wine and popping in to cook the evening meal. The facilities were good. The ducks are so funny especially the Indian Runners. Cat (the cat) is very friendly and would come to visit us. Went to a few places but is was so nice at the gite and garden we spent a lot of afternoons there as the weather was so good. Would not hesitate to go back, Thanks Sue and Craig

Darling Buds Of May
Stayed 18 nights in glorious French sunshine. Lovely cottage in a sleepy location,no traffic or neighbours (apart from Sue and Craig, resident hosts) Very relaxing sat by the lake, with a bottle of wine, feeding the ducks as they entertained us.Also the carp kept popping to the surface to say hello,as the birds of prey hovered above. We also had a couple of kingfishers which gave us an occasional fly-past.Good uncomplicated fishing;any bait will do,the fish are not teenagers. Many interesting towns and villages with an
abundance of good value eateries in locality
Wi-Fi and english TV---after the sunset during our stay.
Yes- we did enjoy our stay to the extent we have booked for next May.
when we will check Craig hasn't been slacking with the renevation project.

2nd time here,,, still great
We were here last year and were not disappointed that we came back. Sue and Craig are great hosts,,,, leaving you to your own devices, but on hand with any advice should and when you need it. The place is very comfortable with everything you need and the setting is,,,, well second to none. I'm not a fisherman but after last year (used Craigs),,, came equipped with my own gear, great fun sat out in the evening after a bbq with the vin rouge at the ready catching fish after fish. The ducks and ducklings were on hand for the evening entertainment on the lawn along with cassie and cat. It is a fantastic base for getting to the many sights of the area,,, apart from the usual we would recommend the Roman Fort, temple, baths and theatre at Jublains just the other side of Mayenne. We went for a quick look around and stayed for 5 hours.... Well impressed with the place, area and people... Don't miss out...

Paradise
What a wonderful cottage, walk out of the door onto your own private lake. Ducks , Fish Cat and dog so friendly. Cottage well stocked with a good selection of books, videos and Television. Everything was very clean and the owners even supplied shampoo and shower gel.
There is a small village 3.5k away with a supermarket and also Petrol which is very helpful. The cottage borders Normandy and Brittany so there are lots of places to go not too far away. In the village there is a excellent Restaurant which is very reasonably priced. I would certainly recommend this cottage.
